Job purpose
The Student Performance Sport Officer will support the advancement of our student performance sport environment and contribute to the development of the sport experience for students competing and coaching in BUCS.
The primary focus will be in three areas:
Performance team development:
Supporting Priority and Development Sports with performance development activities; these may include recruitment, coach development, resource allocation and collaborating across departments in pursuit of broader goals whilst maintaining a values driven approach to achieving potential through sport
Performance athlete support, to include:
- Working as part of a team approach to help create and maintain a performance culture that supports and enhances the student experience, focusing on personal, academic and sporting development
- Dependent on qualifications and experience, contributing to the design and delivery of Lifestyle or Sport Psychology services to student-athletes and performance programmes
Optimising resources:
Supporting, promoting and developing effective and sustainable administration of the resources that will support the ongoing development of student performance sport.

Special conditions
Working in performance sport will require you to work flexible hours in line with athletes training schedules, this may include early morning, evening and weekend work.
Main duties and responsibilities
1 / Performance Team Development:
To work collaboratively with colleagues across the DSDR and SU to promote and maintain a club infrastructure in student performance sport that reflects a culture of success, opportunity and continuous improvement.
-  Identification and management of Priority Sport and student performance targets in liaison with Students’ Union Sport and Head Coaches
-  Supporting Heads of Sport and Student Clubs with recruitment activities
-  Identification of opportunities for a pathway of development within the SU club framework that may be considered for Priority Sport status
-  Liaising regularly with Priority and Performance teams on potential support required in order to develop and action a needs analysis report
-  Consistent engagement with the SU BUCS team to ensure effective and sustainable approaches to working with student clubs competing in BUCS
-  Identifying teams that have opportunity for promotion/ at risk of relegation during the academic year and ensuring effective communication of targets and support
2 / Performance Support:
As part of an integrated department team, monitor and guide the development of an infrastructure, environment and system to ensure that student performance sport is best placed for to meet our performance measures
-  Working with colleagues to develop a system and environment that most effectively supports student performance sport
-  Working with the Athlete Support Officer to support the Dual Career programme and provision of workshops for BUCS athletes
-  Working with the SSM Leads to develop the support provision for student performance clubs and athletes
-  Working with the TAD team to support the use of student experiential learning programmes in student performance sport
3 / Optimising resources and managing profile:
To take a lead role in the optimisation of resources in order to create and maintain a performance environment in student sport.
This will include:
-  Co-ordination, monitoring and reporting of resources including and maintaining accurate records of income and expenditure
-  Providing regular updates of resource allocation and impact
-  Highlighting upcoming events and competitions to Matchtight Ltd, Students’ Union Marketing team and Alumni and Development Office
-  Encouraging supported athletes to use social media to update after performance and provide reports on progress
-  Provide positive news stories from training and performances for marketing purposes to Matchtight Ltd, Students’ Union marketing team and Alumni and Development Office
-  Submit athletes for national awards where applicable
4 / Project based activities that will create a positive and measurable impact in student performance sport:
-  Development of a performance focus in targeted clubs and teams in liaison with Students’ Union Sport
-  Exploring opportunities that will enhance the experience for students competing at a performance level in BUCS
-  Coach development and apprenticeship opportunities
5 / Supporting the activities of Students’ Union Sport and DSDR where appropriate but including:
-  Promotion of the Volunteer recognition scheme
-  Support to student placement where identified
-  Development and growth of the student offer including Recreational and Social provision
