Merry Christmas.

The Ray Wilcox Christmas Trial on 27th December at Burthy Row was certainly a very merry event with 73 riders enjoying an excellent trial on a dry and sunny day. It was good to see some of the regular Oset riders making the transition onto petrol bikes and we look forward to seeing them regularly. Tim Wooldridge on his faithful Tiger Cub managed to keep his feet up all day and return a clean sheet, the other surprise was 10 year old Finlay Rule riding his new Beta 80 which he only had on Christmas Day on the Non Expert Course to lose just 8 marks , beating all but 3 of his adult competitors. Everyone had a great day and a fine opportunity to shake down the turkey and pud.

Oset Fancy Dress.

The annual Oset Fancy Dress Trial was held on 31st December at Gilberts Coombe, and fortunately was again in good dry weather. 35 riders took park with prizes for the best dressed rider and best dressed bike in each age group from 4-12 yrs. The most spectacular were a John Deere tractor bike, several Army tank bikes, surf board bikes, and the riders ranged from Christmas trees to jelly bean outfits all brilliant. In the trial itself consisting of 3 laps of 9 sections the Expert Class winner was Oscar Bowden, Petrol Class winner Jake Goss, Oset Hard Course winner Ronnie Richards. Other winners competed in their respective age groups with overall lowest score on the Medium Course 7 yr old Jack Pengilly and on the Easy Course 5 yr old Marley Davison.

Toby will also be part of team Jitsie in 2017.

By John Bassett

Mike was a key member of our club for most of his adult life. We first met on his fathers ‘Clijah Farm’, in the ‘50’s – when we were running scrambles there. He would have joined our club at that time and made his presence felt from day one.

We subsequently moved to a more challenging venue at Southdowns, nearby – which Mike had a lot to do with. He had by this time taken over the running of the family farm – Clijah.

He soon became involved with The Cornwall Centre of the ACU and was respected for his ‘no nonsense’ way of getting things done. This led to him being elected as chairman – a position he held for a number of years.

The clubs major move was to Nancemellin – which we had a ‘discreet’ look at before approaching Mr Bowden who owned one side of the valley. After getting the thumbs up to run an event there, we had to roll up our sleeves to make this work. Who was in the front line there and continued in that role – Mike!

He took up competing in trials ‘ laterly’ and qualified for the SW Experts Trial.

We enjoyed a few trips together to events ‘up country’ including London to ‘The Motor Cycle Show’ & to The Isle Of Man – for the TT. He enjoyed & did a great deal for Motorcycling. Our sympathy goes to Cynthia & family. JTB
