Barb Travis introduced Brianna Stuck, Community HealthCare Connections’ new part-time Dental Coordinator.

  1. New Business/Emerging Issues:
  1. Bronson Battle Creek: Dentists’ Partnership Program has received one new referral from the BBC ED since the new referral process was established last September. BBC to get back to Barb on next steps.
  2. Keep Calhoun County Smiling: Joint fundraising/awareness event hosted by Fountain Clinic and Community HealthCare Connections. Event was Sunday, October 25th 3:00-6:00. Money raised was designated for dental program. Total raised between $2500-$3500 dollars, with funds split between two organizations. Raised awareness to help the uninsured and let the community know that Fountain Clinic and Community HealthCare Connections partnered together. Successful event, will pursue next year.
  3. Dental Access Initiative Goals: Group reviewed draft goals for 2016. Discussions around goals included:
1.Reduce number of Emergency Department Dental Visits at Hospitals
  • Group would like to see data from ED broken down for insured vs. uninsured.
  • Expanded Medicaid has impacted this number. Anyone on Medicaid receives dental coverage.
  • Grace Health is receiving referrals from ED for those on Medicaid.
2.Change Goal 2. Increase oral health education and add identified target populations:
3.Improve/connect oral healthcare for the Burmese population. Goal on hold. Need to establish a baseline to understand the need.
  • Grace Health has a translator and will connect with phone translation for patients as needed.
  • Education is most difficult – working to translate oral health education forms
4.Revisit oral health education in schools, specifically for seniors in high school. Last time to educate young adults before leaving home. Health class teacher could assist. Suggestion to make contact this spring, for next school year. / Raymond will contact BBC to find out how data was gathered.

  2. Grace Health Portable Dental Program: Sept 1- August 1st
  • U of M dental students are working 3 days/week.Program is going very well. Working towards 6 days/week in the future. This also has been a good recruiting tool for Grace Health.
  • Have provided Portable services at 11 Elementary schools, 1 middle school, 1 high school, 3 K-8 (Albion,Marshall Academy & Mar Lee), Doris Klaussen, Inasmuch House, The Haven of Rest, Community Action including Ann J. Kellogg, Crowell, Doris Hale Center, North Penn.
  • Fountain Clinic Update:
  • In 2015 the Clinic did 629 cleanings and screenings between the Dental Partnership, $5.00 Cleanings and Senior Millage.
  • Dentists’ Partnership Update: December2015.
Brianna intends to visit all the dental offices to inform them of the Program. She is currently receiving 5-6 calls per day, but so far has not scheduled anyone. Brianna will also be teaching the class when it is at Community Healthcare Connections.

  2. Group has an interest in moving Dental Access meetings to the 4th Tuesday of every other month at 8:30 a.m. as several attend Access to Care meetings at 9:30.
