- The latest statistics:
- 12.7 million people were victims of fraud in 2014
- 16 billion dollars in losses in 2014
- 1 case of fraud occurs every 3 seconds
- Scams- Common ways scams begin are with news features such as natural disasters or featured personal stories in the news media.
- The tools used are:
- Telemarketing
- Phishing
- Internet
- Phone/voicemail
- Social media
- Craigslist
- PayPal
- Go fund me accounts
- The types of scams are:
- Investment
- Identity theft
- Phony Charities
- IRS
- Healthcare

Food Committee
- Last SNA Food Committee meeting was held at the Hosea House; discussion surrounded the goals of the SNA Food Committee for 2016.
- Plan of action for Silver Grove food pantry outreach.
- Look into indoor hydroponic gardening
- Next SNA Food Committee Meeting will be held Wednesday, March 9th, 2016 at St. John’s 415 Park Avenue in Newport, KY.
Web Committee
- Alerts systems issues will soon be resolved with the addition of a new email server being put into place by March 2016.
- Next Web Committee meeting is at 8:15 am, Tuesday,March 8th, 2016 at Brighton Center Family Center 799 Ann Street in Newport, Ky.
Furniture Task Force
- Sweet Dreams NKY has set a date of March 19th, 2016 to build 50 twin size beds for Northern Kentucky area children ages 3-18 at Gateways Urban Campus in Covington.
- We are still in need of donation of pillows, twin size sheet sets and bedspreads.
- There were 37 applications for the Sweet Dreams project, representing 76 children in the Northern Kentucky area needing beds.
- There were 27 family’s chosen to receive the beds through a lottery system, following today’s SNA general meeting.
- Next Furniture Task Force meeting is 3:30 PM, Wednesday,March 9th, 2016,and will be held at Brighton Center Family Center 799 Ann Street Newport, KY. Contact Talia Frye to RSVP at
Housing Task Force
- The SNA Executive Committee isworking with the chair of the Housing Task Force, Maggie Volkering to evaluate the direction of the task force; an announcement will be made at theMarch SNA General Meeting regarding the next SNA Housing Task Force meeting.
Executive Committee
- The SNA Executive Committee is working on the final draft of the protocols’ and agreement to collaborate for SNA members and partner agencies.
- There will be a meeting with Executive Directors of current and potential SNA agencies to review the new SNA evergreen agreement; the agreement will be available in late March for agencies who wish to renew their collaborative agreement with the SNA.
- The next SNA Executive Committee meeting will be Friday, March 11th, 2016 at Brighton Center Family Center 799 Ann Street in Newport, KY.
Announcements
Paul Gottbrath and Karen Hayes reporting- Family Promise shelter raised between $7-8000 dollars at the fundraiser event February 12th at Griffin Elite Sports and Wellness. Referrals will be accepted for the family shelter beginning May 1st.
Northern Ky. Cooperative Extension Services- is hiring a SNAP Nutrition Education Instructor.
