PARKS COMMISSION

November 6th, 2013

7:00 P.M.

PRESENT: Tom Battaglia, Roger Pacos, A.J. Balch, Ryan Meredith,Terry DiMaggio, Evie Sievert, Dave Giambrone, and Greg Lauer

Meeting called to order by A.J. Balch at 7:00

A motion was made by Roger Pacosand seconded by Dave Giambroneto approve theOctober, 2013 minutes. All in favor.

Old Business

Halloween Review:

  • Events went on as scheduled, despite cool and windy conditions.
  • Roger praised the efforts of Ryan, Aubrey, and Janet for judging the participants and helping with the lineup.
  • Tom had allocated $350 to be used for cash prizes. We only awarded $160. The other $190 was returned to the treasury.
  • Dave thanked the commission for the honor of being Grand Marshall, and Tom thanked him for his guidance leading up to the event.
  • Evie reported that the Laona parade also went forward and was successful despite the weather conditions.

New Business

Winter Program Progress:

  • Tom will be sending applications to last year’s winter staff that he is interested in retaining.
  • Staffing will be reduced from last year’s levels because we won’t be offering the game room and also based on recommendations from last year’s basketball coordinators.
  • There will be no announcement for job postings in the newspaper.
  • There still is no middle school basketball coordinator, but Tom and Greg are expecting one of Greg’s assistant coaches, Richard Swanson, to take on the roll.
  • Steve Dando will be taking over as youth wrestling coordinator from Dave Lebarron. Steve has worked with the Fredonia wrestling program in the past and has familiarity with how our program runs.
  • Tom was going to check with the school district about the availability of the pool for a possible winter swim program, but after further discussion we decided not to pursue swimming hours this time of year unless we knew of a demand for it. Dave reminded everyone that the winter program was discontinued because of lack of participation.

December and January Meetings:

  • Dueto coaching conflicts and the New Year’s holiday, there will be no meetings in December or January.
  • Tom agreed to send a report in January giving the progress of the winter program

  • Next meeting will be on February 5th, 2014 at 7:00 PM at Village Hall
