March 2015 Advising Matters Podcast Transcript
As we near the end of the semester the podcast wanted to run through a couple important items to consider as the semester winds down.
Meet with an EAC advisor or faculty member in your area of interest
If you have not yet met with an advisor in your area or area(s) of interest, now is the time to do so! This also affords you the opportunity to discuss Fall 2015 registration with an advisor in a potential department of interest. To sign up for a departmental advising appointment you will need to go directly to the department website. You can find links at
Start studying for final exams now!
Exams begin April 23rd. Organize your study materials and make checklists of information to study. Studying early and often helps you retain information for the exam.
Ready to declare a major?
If you know the major you’d like to declare, do so before you leave campus, provided you meet the GPA and course requirements:
See a departmental advisor to officially declare; advisor contact information is available online at: You will need to visit department websites directly to sign up for a departmental advising appointment.

Thinking about summer classes?
Summer is a great time to catch up on the classes you need or to get ahead! You can complete courses at UM during the Spring Term (May 5 to June 22) and/or Summer (July 1 to August 18); or you can take courses at another institution and transfer the credits back to UofM.
If you want to take courses at UM Ann Arbor
The Registrar’s Office will post the Spring and Summer Term course schedules on the LSA Course Guide You can register at the same time you register for fall classes in April. Six credits is considered full time in the spring/summer.
If you want to take courses at another institution (including UM-Dearborn and Flint)
Visit the Course Equivalency Database ( ) and follow the instructions listed on the Transfer Credit Approval Form. If the course is not in the ENGR database or LSA Database , you will need to submit a Transfer Credit Approval Form (TCAF).
Summer/Fall Registration Meetings
Summer/ Fall registration at UM – Ann Arbor will occur in mid April, now is the time to meet with your EAC Advisor or faculty advisor in your department of interest to discuss Fall 2015 course registration. EAC Advisor appointments can be made at advising.engin.umich.edu.
