This activityis geared toward Primary Care Physicians, Hospitalists, Intensivists, Emergency Physicians, and Neurologists, but all physician specialties are invited to attend. It is open to nurses, EMS, paramedics, and all those who care for stroke patients. but all physician specialties are invited to attend. The format will be Case Presentation with Learner Participation and Lecture with Q&A Session.
This activity will encompass the following desirable physician attributes: Patient Care & Procedural Skills, Medical Knowledge, Professionalism, Interpersonal & Communication Skills, Practice-Based Learning & Improvement, and Systems-Based Practice.

  • Cite the recent advances in stroke care
  • Recognize the updates in acute stroke care at St. Jude Medical Center, including latest clinical studies
  • Manage elderly stroke patients timely and refer to long-care facilities when appropriate
  • Avoid missing subtypes of strokes by diagnosing timely and appropriately
  • Navigate language barriers and communicate effectively to perform a thorough history
  • Identify patients who are at an increased risk of stroke and counsel them about prevention

Desired Outcomes:
  • Cite the current epidemiology of cataracts, glaucoma, and common corneal diseases and disorders, and screen properly
  • Refer patients to ophthalmologist for regular eye exams in a timely manner
  • Manage patients with eye diseases appropriately
  • Consider age, ethnicity, and socioeconomics when screening for and managing patients with eye diseases
This activity fulfills 1.0 (one) hour of Geriatric credit, as outlined in AB1820.
