Media Tech Course Syllabus

A Media Tech is required to demonstrate the following skills:

1. Honesty

2. The ability to work with the patrons of the Media Center and to follow direction from Mrs. Clements and Mrs. Nebeker

3. Good keyboarding skills

4. Knowledge of computer use

5. Various performance tasks as outlined in the following document.

Grading Procedures and Evaluation:

As with other full-credit classes, Media Techs must be in class and on time. You will be marked tardy (and be receiving a detention slip) if you are not in the library when the tardy bell rings. The Media Center will follow the same grading procedures as outlined in the student handbook.

Students will receive a daily grade for their activities. These grades will be based on a four-point scale.

4 = does all assigned work and works all class period as directed by Mrs. Clements or Mrs. Nebeker.

3 = does all assigned work but must be reminded of duties several times.

2 = does basic tasks but does not ask what needs to be done during idle time.

1 - 0 = does not complete assigned work and has unacceptable behavior for a Media Tech.

Course Objectives:

Basic tasks for the Media Tech:

1. Complete tasks as assigned by Mrs. Clements or Mrs. Nebeker.

2. Return all checked - in materials to their regular Media Center location.

3. Maintain assigned shelves in an orderly and attractive manner, reading the shelves at assigned times throughout the semester. Be prepared to be tested on the ability to accurately read shelves, demonstrating ability to locate and correctly reshelve materials.

4. Learn basic tasks to run the Circulation and Catalog portion of the Follett program. Check in and out materials to patrons.

5. Learn and correctly shelve the types of materials contained in each section of the Media Center.

6. Master the system of processing, entering, and filing periodicals.

7. Master the organization of the card catalog, including alphabetical order and types of cards.

8. Prepare new books and materials to be entered into the computer and put on the shelf. This includes the proper way to stamp, label, cover, and barcode the materials.

9. Learn the organization and usage of the print and online research sources, including Follett Destiny and LiLI, and be able to instruct and help patrons in its usage.

  1. When using personal mobile devices in the library, you be required to follow the district's acceptable use policy and to use the school's wifi.
  1. Complete all assignments and tasks on Library Moodle page.
