Class Evaluation
Blog– 15% - We will be developing our own blogs which will help us develop our digital footprints. This blog will be a portfolio of your work and will be a place to store your assignments, projects, and media log and will be used year-round. We will also be developing pages that will help develop our profile of a media consumer.

Media Logs – 20% - A media log is like a journal. It is a place for you to jot down your responses, reactions, thoughts, and ideas about the media. It is a record of your experiences in this course. Throughout the course, you will be asked to respond to what you are hearing, viewing, or reading associated with a particular topic or task. Students should record their media logs in a notebook and will also be given class time to transfer their entries onto their blog.
Daily Class Activities, Presentations, Homework, and Participation – 35% - Students are responsible for their learning and attendance is mandatory. In order to be successful in this class, students need to participate and complete all class activities and assignments to the best of their abilities.

Final Project – “Eye on the Media” – 30% - Your project will critically look at an issue that you wish to further explore and examine in the media. You will have the opportunity to propose a project proposal to Mrs. Merriam. Your proposal is to include one of the following foundational objectives:

  • Recognize and appreciate the role of mass media in communication, in contemporary society, and in your personallife.
  • Recognize the codes, forms, and conventions of the various massmedia.
  • Recognize the ways in which the various mass media shape their messages, and construct a sense of what the world is or how itworks.
  • Analyze and evaluate the various mass media, including their sources, intents, and underlyingvalues.
  • Recognize the role and power of advertising in the massmedia.
  • Extend and apply representing and viewing abilities by designing and creating a mediatext.
