Media Matters
Hello TES Families! This is the TES Media Specialist, Ms. Berling!  I have really enjoyed meeting and working with the students and families here at Taneytown Elementary. Thank you for welcoming me to TES so warmly. I look forward to meeting many more families throughout the year. I wanted to make you aware of a few things now that the school yearis in full swing!

  • Earlier in the school year, I sent a letter home with each student introducing myself. At the bottom of the letter, there was a slip to return if you were interested in volunteering from time to time in the Media Center. Several people turned in slips. For those of you who have completed a volunteer training session, I am in the process of creating a volunteer schedule and will be in touch soon. If you find that you are now available and are now volunteer-trained, and would like to volunteer, please contact me at the school.
  • You can find information about our Media Center on the Taneytown Elementary School website. addition to other information, there is a link there to our Destiny catalog. Students are able to access Destiny from home to browse for books or use our online resources and databases. They simply need to use their regular school login information.
  • Students in grades Pre-K through 2 are able tocheck out1 book every week. If the book is not returned by their next Media class, they will not be able to check out an additional book until the current item is returned.
  • Students in grades 3 – 5 are able to check out2 books every other week. I try to encourage them to find one fiction book and one non-fiction book. If the books are not returned by their next Media class, they will not be able to check out additional books until the current items are returned.
  • 4th and 5th graders are welcome to participate in our Battle of the Books competition this year! The competition will be held on May 6 at Elmer Wolfe Elementary School. An informational flyer and permission slip went home on October 2nd. The slips are due to Ms. Berling by October 26th! If your child needs another form, please ask them to come see me! There is more information about this event on the CCPL site
  • Save the Date! Our TES Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the Spring this year! Our date is scheduled for April 11 – 15. There is a parent conference night that week, so my hope is that families can pop inbefore or after their scheduled conference(s). In a couple of months I will begin asking for volunteers to help with the Book Fair!! If you have completed a volunteer training session for this school year, and are interested in helping, please let me know!
  • Have you read a good book lately?? It is a great idea to let your child see you enjoy reading something that interests you or helps you. Talk with them, too, about what they are reading. Ask them about the Media book they checked out. Read it with them. You are a great role model for encouraging your child’s love of reading!
