PHILIPS IN THE TURKEY

Philips Healthcare is committed to improving the lives of clinicians and patients in the Turkey through meaningful health care solutions. The company maintains a holistic, long-term approach of partnering with local stakeholders to improve local health care infrastructures.

With over 17 years of health care specific experience in the region, Philips has worked to improve patient outcomes in the areas of cardiology, oncology, respiratory disease, sleep, women’s health and mother and child care. The company has a strong heritage in radiology and cardiology, working to meet growing local needs of health care professionals and patients in hospitals and at home.

PHILIPS MEETING LOCAL NEEDS

Philips works closely to form innovative partnerships with local stakeholders and has extended its footprint in the Turkey through the following initiatives:

Training programs to improve care

·  Partnering with Medmar on Education, Istanbul

In 2010, Philips opened four education centers in the Middle East, in Istanbul, Beirut, Dubai and Riyadh. These centers focus on providing clinical application education and continuing clinical education, designed specifically around the needs of health care professionals. In Istanbul, the center, which focuses on CT and MR training for an international audience, was opened in partnership with Medmar Diagnostic Center. The center has already trained 40 health care professionals, including people from outside of Turkey such as Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq and even China.

Setting standards in the management of chronic disease

·  Partnering to raise awareness on sleep disorders and its risks

Philips Turkey has been involved in raising awareness of Obstructed Sleep Apnea (OSA) amongst the general public, through two campaigns called “Wake up to Sleep” and “Do You Snore”. As part of this, Philips collaborated with Eczacıbaşı, one of Turkey’s biggest industrial groups, as well as the Turkish Sleep Medical Association and the Traffic Control Bureau, on various educational and awareness activities. In parallel, Philips launched an online patient health awareness program to raise visibility of the issues and risks of sleep disorders amongst the general public in Turkey.

·  Improving early diagnosis of breast cancer

A recent survey in Turkey revealed that, although women are major consumers of healthcare services, they can lack knowledge on key issues regarding their own health. Over a third of the 403 respondents of the survey had “no opinion” of when they should be screened for breast cancer, despite the fact that breast cancer is a major cause of morbidity in Turkey. To raise awareness of this issue and start a debate on how to make changes, Philips hosted a two-day event in Istanbul, as part of the 2012 Athens to Zagreb (A2Z) roadshow, to bring together health care professionals and government officials. The event generated media attention and it is hoped that by making this discussions highly visible, it will lead to earlier detection, and therefore better outcomes, of breast cancer.

Partnerships and research collaborations that meet local needs

·  Partnering with Yeditepe University, Istanbul

Since 2006, Philips has been in partnership with Yeditepe University to study clinical excellence in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The first study was highly appreciated in the radiologic community and was even featured on the cover of the American Journal of Roentgenology. As an academic center, the University also made a major contribution to the online community of health care professionals (NetForum) by sharing the most viewed clinical case. At the moment, Yeditepe University is working with the latest Ingenia 3T on follow up of patients after orthopedic surgery.
