University of Chicago to Honor Shulamit Ran’s Distinguished Service:
Retirement Events Planned April 13, 2015
CHICAGO—
The University of Chicago’s Department of Music and the University of Chicago Presents will celebrate Shulamit Ran, Andrew MacLeish Distinguished Service Professor of Music and Artistic Director, Contempo,with special retirement events April 13, 2015.
The occasion honors Ran’s retirement in June after more than 40 years of service to the University and 12 years as artistic director of Contempo. All events are free and open to the public at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts on the Hyde Park campus.
Activities include a public screening of a short film documentary on Contempo’s history, a reception in the Performance Penthouse, and a concert of the music of Shulamit Ran in the Performance Hall. Resident ensembles eighth blackbird and Pacifica String Quartet will be joined by the Motet Choir, the flagship choral ensemble of the University of Chicago, under the direction of Dr. James Kallembach, the Director of Choral Activities at the University.
