WHO & WHAT:In the true spirit of Christmas,cast members of the Broadway musical Newsies,will join Detroit Police Department Command Officers tohand-out Detroit Goodfellows holiday gift boxes to local families in need at a special distribution event.

Lending a hand will beDetroit Police Department Command Officers from the Third Precinct, Detroit Goodfellows President Nancy Foran, Detroit Goodfellows Vice President Bob Costello and several other Goodfellow members and volunteers.

WHERE:Bethel AME Church, 5050 St. Antoine (at Warren),in Detroit
WHY:Detroit Police precincts and districts distribute 34,000 Goodfellows holiday gift boxes containing warm clothes, dolls, books, candy and toys to needy children aged 4 – 13 in Detroit, Hamtramck, Highland Park, Harper Woods and River Rouge. It’s estimated that one out of every three Detroit public schoolchildren receives a Detroit Goodfellows gift box. Funds raised by the Detroit Goodfellows pay for the holiday packages; the group’s 2015 fundraising goal is $1.1 million. This is the Detroit Goodfellows’ 102ndyear of distributing gift boxes to children as it fulfills its mission of “No kiddiewithout a Christmas.”
