Gubaidulina and Schuller World Premieres
CHICAGO —
Contempo, the University of Chicago's renowned contemporary music collective, continues its 50th season celebration of a stunning record of longevity featuring the best in new music on March 1st with a Sunday matinee in the Logan Center for the Arts Performance Hall.
Contempo at 50: Now and Then II features two world premieres - Four Chromatic Adventures by Gunther Schuller and Pilgrims by Sofia Gubaidulina. Helen Grime's Entwined Channels and Howard Sandroff's chants des femmes open the program. Earl Kim's composition Now and Then was commissioned by the Department of Music of the University of Chicago in 1982.
Resident ensembles eighth blackbird and Pacifica Quartet are joined by guest artists Michelle Areyzaga, soprano; Alison Attar, harp; Daniel Schlosberg, piano; Mary Stolper, flute; Benjamin Sutherland, electronics; Collins Trier, double bass. To learn more about these artists, click here.
Before the program, at 2:00 PM, composers Sofia Gubaidulina and Gunther Schuller and Professors Berthold Hoeckner and Steven Rings will participate in a roundtable discussion.
