Purpose of the job:

To assist the Team Leader to provide day-to-day operational management and ensure optimum support to service users/tenants. To ensure adherence to all relevant standards and regulations.

Resource Accountabilities:

¨  Occasional staff supervision

¨  In the absence of the Team Leader, is responsible for the maintenance of the house, equipment and household items, and administers budget and money in accordance with financial procedures

¨  Responsible for safety and development of service users/tenants

Main Accountabilities:

  1. To assist in the preparation of Support Plans and be responsible for Supporting service users to look after their own physical and mental well-being, contributing greatly to their development, and maintaining written records of support. To ensure adherence to house systems and guidelines
  2. To provide care as identified in individual support plans in accordance with Domiciliary Care Standards and The Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI).
  3. To be responsible for the overall maintenance of the project, taking the lead role whilst on duty. To ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided both for staff and service users,
  4. To support a positive interaction between service users and the local community
  5. To support service users in practical, personal, financial including paying bills and rent where applicable, social and domestic skills to promote their independence in the community, including assisting them with benefit problems they may have.
  6. To clean vacated rooms in preparation for new service users, checking inventories and re-equipping as necessary, helping new users with the tenancy agreement and settling in comfortably
  7. To assist the team Leader to administer the project’s budget according to financial procedures, liasing with MCCH Housing Management and Benefits Officers as necessary. In the absence of the Team Leader, to be responsible for the maintenance of premises, equipment and cash
  8. To have access to confidential information about service users and staff, maintaining confidentiality at all times and exchanging information on a need-to-know basis
  9. To hold meetings for and with service users as needed, e.g. for information exchange, resolving disputes effectively, and reviewing procedures. To attend some external meetings, and liase with external agencies
  10. To hold, or work towards, NVQ level 3 Care qualification/other vocational qualifications.

Qualifications / Above average literacy and numeracy
NVQ 3 care or equiv.
Knowledge / Understands philosophies and principles of MCCH
Understanding of difficulties of clients with varying illnesses/ disabilities.
Reasonable working knowledge of the benefits system
Understanding of the philosophy and culture of supported living.
Skills/
Experience / 18+ months experience in related field
Good verbal & written communication skills
Confidence in dealings with outside agencies
Personal attributes / Ability to work with concentration and to deadline despite frequent interruptions
Self-motivated and enthusiastic
Emotional management in times of stress with unpredictable service users

Able to work flexible hours

Flexible approach and belief that service users should have a choice about how to live their life.
Behavioural Competence / Good communication and interpersonal skills at all levels

Terms and Conditions of Employment

Support Worker – Supported Living

·  Salary:

From £15,634 to £16,468 per annum based on full-time hours of 37 hours per week (pro rata for part-time hours).

Plus, where appropriate:

- London weighting of £1,500 or

- Fringe allowance for Dartford/Gravesend work bases of £450

Progress through the pay scale is dependent on performance and effective April each year, with an annual increase in July each year.

Salaries are paid on the 24th of each month by credit transfer directly into your bank / building society account.

·  Hours of Work:

Full time hours are 37 per week according to the rota. Early, late and occasional night work may be required, as will weekends and public holidays.

·  Enhancements and Allowances:

·  Saturday and Sunday – Basic rate of plus 20%

·  Bank Holidays paid at double time plus TOIL for hours worked

·  On Call - £11.50 per session

·  Mileage paid at Inland Revenue Mileage Rate – currently 40 pence a mile.

·  Annual Leave:

25 days per annum (pro rata if you work part time hours).

·  Relief Support Worker Staff Bank :

·  Other:

Stakeholder Pension - There is an employer contribution of up to 3% of basic salary (plus any relevant location allowance) dependent upon the employee’s chosen level of contribution. If the employee chooses to pay in less that 3% of their basic salary (plus any relevant location allowance), the employer will match the sum paid in by the employee.
