Maysville Rotary Club College Scholarship

The James Melville Jones Award

On the early morning of April 17, 1972 one of our fellow Rotarians, James Melville Jones, died while battling a major forest fire burning across the Pocosin in Hoffman Forest. Jimmy perished while moving equipment when he was trapped by a wind shift that brought the fire back to him. The members of the Rotary Club of Maysville created this scholarship in his memory to serve as a means of honoring him and his commitment to our community.
