  1. LEARNING RESOURCES:

When you register for a course, you take on a big responsibility. If you want to complete this class successfully, below are some of the things I expect you take responsibility for.

  1. Come to class every day. Each class builds on the preceding ones. Gaps in your knowledge can be detrimental.
  2. Be on time. Stragglers are very disruptive. It also wastes your money. If you have to leave early, please sit at the back of the class and close to the door.
  3. Do the assigned homework. You cannot learn math without doing math. The more you practice, the better you get. Be prepared to spend an average of 2 hours a day outside class. Try to get help as soon as possible. The Math lab (SAM 106) is a good place to get additional help. The Student Tutoring Center (BE 2103 Mezzanine) is another place to get free tutoring. Sign up early in BE 1102B1. There are study sessions in Math Pathfacilitated by a math instructor. The schedule will be announced in the class.Feel free to drop by or you can just do your homework there and get help right away.
  4. Come to my office hours whenever you need extra help.
  5. Get to know at least one of your classmates. If you miss a class, call a classmate to get the notes and assignment. Get together with other classmates to work on problems you are having difficulty. The study lounge is a good place to study together.
  6. Read the syllabus thoroughlyand keep a file of all your returned work.

g. Check our class website in WAMAP regularly. To get in, Course ID is 2072 and enrollment key is SCCC.

  1. FEEDBACK AND EVALUATION:

A 30-minute group quiz will be given every Friday during the week with no chapter exams. Homework problems will be randomly selected and corrected. There will be four 50minute chapter exams (individual) given during the quarter. Final exam will be comprehensive and will cover all materials.

There are NO MAKE-UPS FOR QUIZZES OR EXAMS. LATE HOMEWORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

To accommodate personal and family emergencies, two class works, two assignments and one quiz will be dropped by the end of the quarter. One missed exam will be replaced by your final exam, appropriately scaled. Any succeeding missed exams will automatically be a zero. If you take all exams, your lowest exam score will be replaced by your final exam, if your final exam (appropriately scaled) is higher.

Grading Policy: Grades will be based on the following:

Homework 15%

Class work 5%

Quizzes 10%

Chapter Exams 40%

Final Exam 30%

The average percentage from above will have the following numerical & letter grades:

(example: 2.2 = 77%; 2.5 = 80%; 3.0 = 85%, 3.5=90%)

95 100 4.0 A+

90 94 3.53.9 A

80 89 2.53.4 B

65 79 1.52.4 C
