1. A sketch was drawn and approved before starting mugs. Name & period are engraved on bottom of mugs.
2. Mugs are made from a 3”x 9”, 4”x 10”, or 5”x11” slab.
3. Mugs are made from ¼” slabs and curved from the inside creating a larger shaped bottom than top.
4. Walls are not cracked.
5. Bottom slab is securely attached.
6. Handles are pulled and curved in a question mark or ‘S’ shape.
7. Handles are smoothly attached and match in size and shape.
8. Handles have an opening for two to three fingers to fit loosely.
9. Handles are vertical and placed over seam.
10. Handles are balanced & fit the size of mug.
11. Handles are placed ¼’’ to ½” from top rim of mugs.
12. Handles are smooth with no cracks or breaks.
13. Edges of the rims are rounded & not sharp or jagged.
14. Mugs incorporate student’s theme for plates and teapot.
15. On at least one mug there is a relief design [it pops out (3D)] and is attached securely to the mug.
16. All score marks are blended away.
17. The object is inviting to see and use.
18. There are no cracks or rough edges caused by clay drying at a fast rate.
19. Craftsmanship is evident; mugs are smooth & not warped.
20. The mugs did not break or explode in the kiln.
Each mug is worth 10 points 20 total points as a set.
