Homework, Quizzes & Projects: Homework will be collected and graded. Students may work together on homework, but each individual student is required to write-up and turn in their own work. LATE HOMEWORK IS NOT ACCEPTED. Quizzes are given at the discretion of the instructor and frequently reflect material that has recently been discussed in class, thus further encouraging regular attendance. MAKE-UP QUIZZES ARE NOT GIVEN.

Exams: There will be three midterm exams given during the semester. These exams will involve a mix of mechanical skills and conceptual reasoning. The best possible preparation for the exams is regular attendance and completion of assigned homework. All exams will be taken outside of class in the Math Testing Center on the dates indicated on the schedule. The instructor prior to each exam will hand out testing Center labels in class. Makeup exams are given at the discretion of the instructor and only in the case of verified medical or other emergency, which must be documented. The instructor must be notified before the test is given. Call the instructor or the Math Department Office (480-965-3951) and leave a message or directly notify your instructor.

Exam Dates:Exam 1, Chapter 1: February 9th and 10th

Exam 2, Chapter 2-3: March 8th and 9th

Exam 3, Chapter 4-5: April 8th and 9th

Exam 4, (final exam), Chapter 6,9: See below

Final Exams: The final exam will be given on May 7th, 12:20-2:10 pm, in the regularly scheduled classroom. There will be no make-ups given for the final, and no finals will be rescheduled for personal reasons, including nonrefundable airplane tickets.

Calculators: The recommended calculator for this course is the Casio fx-7400G Plus. At least a scientific calculator is required.

Math Testing Center: The Mathematics Department Testing Center is in PSA 21 (basement). In order to be admitted to the Testing Center each student must have a valid ASU “Sun Card” and an official testing center label. The Math Testing Center is open 8:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. M – Th and 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Fri. Make sure you arrive before 6:30 M – Th (3:30 Fri.) since these hours are strictly enforced. Students should take exams as early as possible during the allotted time frame, as the center can get extremely busy.

Math Tutor Center: The Math Tutor Center in located in PSA 116 will be open Mon – Thurs: 8 a.m.– 8 p.m., Fri: 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., Sat: 12 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Sun: 12 a.m. – 4 p.m. In order to be admitted to the Tutor Center each student must have a valid ASU “Sun Card”.

Disabilities: If you have any disabilities, which may hinder your performance, please let your instructor know as soon as possible.

Ethics: It is highly unethical to bring to your instructor’s attention the possible impact of your mathematics grade on your future plans, including graduation, scholarship, jobs, etc. The instructor may exercise an option to withdraw you from the course if they think you are compromising the ability to assess your work independently of any other consideration. Students found to be involved in academic dishonesty will be removed from the class and a grade of “E” for the course will be submitted to the registrar. The student will be advised to repeat the course with another professor, possibly at another institution. This is the least action taken. Further, more serious actions may be taken if the situation indicates that such actions are appropriate. We will act very harshly against cheating during quizzes or exams.
