4.  Satisfactorily meet the professional, personal, scholastic, and other standards for graduate study, including qualifying examinations, as appropriate campus authorities may prescribe. In unusual circumstances, a campus may make exceptions to these criteria.

TOEFL REQUIREMENT

All graduate and postbaccalaureate applicants, regardless of citizenship, whose received an undergraduate degree in a foreign country must demonstrate competence in English. These students must receive a minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (the internet based score is 80), unless the applicant:

GRADUATE WRITING ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENT (GWAR)

Graduate students who earned a bachelor's degree from a U.S. accredited college or university are considered to have met the GWAR, and do not need to take the WPE. Exemptions for such graduate students are automatically noted in the student’s records.

Graduate students who are not exempt are required to take the WPE in their first semester of enrollment and follow the appropriate pathway based on their WPE score. The new policy requires that students who are not exempt from the WPE must begin their pathway within two semesters of taking the WPE and must enroll in an appropriate pathway course each semester until they have satisfied the GWAR.

Registration holds may be placed on students who fail to comply with timely completion of the GWAR requirements. The GWAR needs to be met in order to advance to candidacy, the first step to be considered for graduation.
