Job Description: Employability Trainer

Reporting to: The Project Director, Step Ahead Guidance and Training (SAGAT)

Location:Lambeth College, Brixton Campus and any other site as required by the managing director

Job Purpose

The role of the Employability Trainer is to deliver the ‘Getting a Job in .....course’ and NCFE Level 1 Employability skills portfolio through provision of skills based workshops, one to one and small group coaching sessions. The post holder will demonstrate a high level of organizational skill in ensuring that candidates are able to meet specified training hours whilst maintaining an individualized approach dealing with volumes of candidates. The Employability Trainer will also deliver work clubs and support people to gain work experience, further education, training or an apprenticeship.

The Employability Trainer will be organized and focused on adhering to processes and procedures that ensure that maximum performance is achieved and maintained.

The Employability trainer will work with Step Ahead Recruitment Consultants and JCP's to ensure that courses are filled to capacity. The Employability Trainer will also help to support Step Ahead Recruitment Consultants to meet team performance targets, place people in sustained employment and/or training.

The role requires that the post holder to work collaboratively with Lambeth College staff and systems whilst maintaining the values and professional standards of Step Ahead. The Employability Trainer will also be expected to take part in networking, recruitment and marketing events to promote Step Ahead Guidance Advice and Training, Step Ahead Apprenticeship Training Agency and Step Ahead Recruitment.

It is expected that the Employability Trainer will hold or be working towards a recognized qualification in Teaching and Learning for Adults.

Education and Training

•Be able to understand & interpret course requirements and structure training appropriately

•Provide coaching/training in small groups or with individuals towards specific job related subjects

•Provide coaching/training in small groups or with individuals enable candidates to complete their NCFE portfolio

•Deliver employment skills workshops to candidates

•Be able to use a wide range of facilitation and classroom management techniques to deliver training

•Take appropriate action to manage disruptive or unacceptable behavior including time management

•Support candidates to meet their individual learning outcomes through their Individual Learning Plan

•Develop Individual Learning Plans demonstrating that candidates have met course outcomes and learning hours

•Contribute to course timetabling

•Complete all candidate documentation to a high standard and in a timely manner

•Maintain teaching and learning documentation so that it is fit for purpose and ready for audit as required

•Develop teaching and learning resources for candidates, classrooms and the SAGAT team as a whole

•Cover teaching commitments for other team members in times of absence or sickness

•Maintain accurate records of training hours, candidate contact and changes to ILP or candidate circumstances

•Inform recruitment consultants/trainers and SAGAT administration of any issues relating to candidate compliance or ability to complete course

•Able to administer Prove-it training, literacy and numeracy testing

•Identify when IT is not working well and take steps to solve the problem or report issues to IT department

Candidate Recruitment, Performance and Retention

•Work with course administrators to ensure that all candidates are enrolled with the college

•Ensure that all candidates are legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom

•To take part in assessment centres and ensure that candidates are informed of course requirements at the beginning of the course (learning hours requirement, attendance requirements, sickness/absence policy, informing the Recruitment Consultant/Trainer of interview dates etc)

•Liaise with course administrators to ensure accurate data is submitted to meet contractual obligations

•Ensure all opportunities are taken to enable candidates to complete the contracted hours for the course

•Work collaboratively with key stakeholders such as Lambeth College to ensure performance and financial goals are achieved

•To adhere at all times to all relevant legislation and to record and report breaches in compliance. Legislation includes but is not exclusively:

•Race Discrimination legislation

•Disability Discrimination legislation

•Immigration legislation

•Working Time Regulations

•To enforce sickness, absence and lateness policy and contact candidates when attendance on course drops

•Complete all course documentation in a timely manner

•Support Recruitment Consultant/Trainers to make productive relationships with JCP to ensure a supply of candidates for Step Ahead courses

Promote Job Opportunities

•Be aware of the importance of developing & maintaining ongoing relationships with employers to ensure a supply of jobs and placements for candidates

•Provide SAGAT administration of the details when candidates get job interviews or go into work

•Pass any job opportunities to recruitment/consultant trainers

•To contribute to open days, marketing and recruitment events

Team and Company Responsibility

•Comply with SAGAT processes and procedures to ensure that personal and company performance targets are maintained.

•To identify factors that may affect performance and escalate to Project Director and offer solutions

•Participate in ongoing review of individual performance against KPI/targets

•Take part in quality assurance activities including developing their personal portfolio of teaching and training evidence.

•Escalate poor performance and practice to Project Director

•Contribute education and training expertise to the whole of the SAGAT team through attendance at meetings, provision of training opportunities, supporting new and less experienced staff, and sharing of skills, expertise and experience

•Contribute to the ongoing business of Step Ahead as required by the managing director

•Contribute to SAGAT business planning by working collaboratively with the project director to review and develop systems and processes to maintain performance and potential areas for growth

•Take part in the appraisal process and act in accordance with identified individual goals

•Seek opportunities to develop own skill and expertise

•Support the development of other team members and take part in teaching and training events

•Actively apply problem solving and creative thinking to maximize on business development & team development opportunities

•Undertake any other activities as directed by the senior management team

•Follow SAGAT processes and procedures to ensure that performance targets are maintained.

•Maintain communication between recruitment consultants and their candidates

•Identify any thing that may affect the performance of the project and escalate to Project Director

•Attend team meetings and any other meetings as identified by the Project Director

•Contribute to the ongoing business of Step Ahead as required by the managing director

Candidate management / Number of candidates completing > 50 course hours/course (95% of enrolled candidates will complete > 50 hours)
Education and Training / Number of completed portfolios submitted per course (90% of enrolled candidates will submit a completed and passed portfolio)
Number of fully completed ILP’s submitted per course (100% of enrolled candidates who complete > 50 hours will have a fully completed ILP)
