COURSE DESCRIPTION:Practical application oriented study of interpersonal skills and attitudes necessary to work with others. Topics included are: maintaining professionalism, adapting/coping with change and stress, work ethics, motivation, conflict resolution, team work and customer relations.
PREREQUISITE(S): None
TEXT:Effective Human Relations in Organizations, 7th Edition, Reece/Brandt, Houghton Mifflin
COURSE GOALS: Enable students to create a productive and beneficial situation by satisfying employee needs while achieving organizational objectives. The student will become more skilled at interacting with fellow workers, employers, customers, as well as maintaining professionalism on the job.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
1.Make the transition from classroom to working world/job interaction.
2.Communicate more effectively with other employees, managers, co-workers, and customers.
3.Successfully interact with peers to use problem-solving in a team effort.
4.Appreciate one’s contribution to the economic success of a business as an employee and/or owner.

EVALUATION METHODS/GRADING PROCEDURES:
1.This course will be taught with an emphasis on class participation. Attendance and participation are an important part of your final grade.
2.A distribution of points will be made at the instructor’s discretion and judgment selected from a variety of the following methods:
Chapter tests and possibly a comprehensive final
Quizzes
Journal writing
Written reports from current periodicals or other assigned readings
Oral presentation
Projects...individual and team
Book analysis (written and oral)
Class participation
Points and their weight value will be communicated to each class at the beginning of each term.
A percentage system is used as follows:
4.0 = 95%
3.5 = 90%
2.5 = 80%
1.5 = 70%
0.7 = 60%
