Master Coach Checklist and Application

The First Tee Master Coach is intended to challenge coaches to master the life skills and coach philosophy, as well as the nuances of chapter programming and operations. The First Tee Coach must meet three initial criteria to apply:

  1. Longevity - Have a minimum of five years total in the network based upon date completed (and approved) Level I training requirements; Must be recorded in the Coach Database
  2. CEUs - Earn 72 with at least 16 coming from service to the home office
  3. The First Tee Coach Advanced Training - Attend at least one Coach Advanced Training prior to submitting application

If you meet the criteria above, then you will have until the first Monday in November 2016 to submit your Master Coach Application. When you have completed the application, you must submit it by uploading it via hightail.com on The First Tee Website. (Be sure to keep your own personal file of all submitted work.)Once the Master Coach application has been approved, additional requirements must be fulfilled.

Master Coach Project Categories

To help guide your decision process regarding the development of your Master Coach Project, please review the categories below to determine which category best aligns with your potential project. These categories are based on first come basis. If your potential Master Coach Project falls outside of the categories below, you must submit a petition to the home office that will be sent to the Board of Examiners for consideration.

Certification

  • Implementation process of Certification (that must include at a minimum):
  • Behavioral observations of core values and life skill behaviors
  • Strategies and practices for tracking and data collection, as well as reporting outcomes to potential donors, funders, etc.
  • How best to grow student certification numbers by utilizing chapter’s investment in ACT coaches to increase class size

Child Protection/ Safety

  • Comprehensive strategies and layers of child protection, from physical safety within class to operational practices to create barriers and layers of safety Child Safety and Child Abuse Prevention.
  • Coaches are encouraged to advocate for sufficient resources to protect chapter participants from unsafe conditions and physical, emotional and sexual abuse.
  • Coaches are in the best position to notice practical challenges. Find your voice by (a) identifying 3 – 5 practical issues at your chapter, (b) proposing solutions and the cost of those solutions, and (c) presenting a proposal and budget to your program director and executive director.

Community

  • Implementation, strategies and practices for partnering with schools and other youth serving agencies to integrate The First Tee programs (i.e. NSP, Drive, Life Skills Experience) throughout your community.
  • Showing how to successfully link all three delivery channels: green-grass facilities, NSP and DRIVE

Program Design

  • Program Schedules, Program Capacity, Design Scope & Sequence, Incorporating an analysis or assessment tool, that will evaluate effectiveness of Program Design
  • Special programs that uniquely increase participation, retention and progression of diverse participants (ethnicity, gender and special needs)
  • Create a library of games that is based on The First Tee Golf Skills Curriculum as delivered through the Life Skills Experience. Completely written in The First Tee language to include golf skills categories, paired with fundamentals and factors of Influence etc…
  • Develop a program that helps retain and progress participants, to acquire necessary skills—life skills, golf skills, healthy habits--to play competitively or at the next level. For instance: exposure to club fitting, participate in local golf tournaments, build golf resume, community service etc.

Program Location Development

  • Process for developing a new program location and ongoing strategies to maintain quality of program delivery (coach assessment, operations, administration, etc.)
  • Consistency of program delivery across multiple program locations – using scope and sequence
  • With an emphasis on diversity, how to recruit, train, observe, retain and reward a large percentage of coaches at programming locations

Technology

  • Master Coaches will have to create a 2 to 5 minute You Tube like video to describe and share their project with the network
