Let the Games Begin!

Teams have been decided, Initiation levels have been evaluated, practices have started, rink cleaning every week has begun, zamboni drivers are always needed, and we need parents to step forward to help MYHA keep OUR rink looking GOOD and to assist in making this the best association possible.

As the games begin, let’s remember that we all need to be good sportsmen. I would ask each of you let the coaches coach. There is a reason our Head of Coaches and coaching committee have these individuals in place. I would also ask that if any parents have a concern with your coach or assistant coach, that you take that concern directly to that person. If after doing this you get no resolution or need further qualification on the matter, take it to the Head of Coaches, and if after that you still are not satisfied please contact the Coaching Liaison, Percy Stephenson.

We need to remember that we all make mistakes and none of us are perfect. I would like to remind you to please read the Handbook that each of you should have on MYHA Policies and Procedures. Doing this should shed some light on how our organization functions and operates.

I would again like to thank every one of you for being part of MYHA and for all the hard work and hours many individuals put into keeping MYHA the best it can be.

Let’s have fun and continue to make new friends again this year.

Dean Fenhaus

MYHA President

Safety: Dropping Off Kids at the Rink

Just a reminder that if you drop your skater(s) off for practice and are not staying for practice, please be sure to check that the coach or another responsible adult is present in the building.

There have been some problems, usually at the 3:30 practice, when skaters have been dropped off and on the ice, and the coach or no other adult is present. Please remind your son/daughter that they are not to be on the

Open Skate Season Passes Available

This year, we are offering you the opportunity to purchase a season pass for all open skate dates. This pass will include all Saturday evening skates, as well as all open skates through the Marshfield Parks & Recreation Department.

The cost is $20 per pass. These passes will be available at registration, scrip nights, and at the concession stand through December. These passes are available to not only MYHA members, but to Silver Laces and the general public.

Please support our open skate program. It’s more than just fun, it’s a wonderful family experience and great exercise during our long Wisconsin winters.

Mouthguards During Orthodontic Treatment

Just a reminder for any hockey players that are in any kind of orthodontic treatment to check with your dentist on the kind of mouthguard you should be using.

While it is important to wear mouthguards, most dentists would say not to wear the fitted/formed kind because it may delay or interfere with their treatment.

Accounting Notes

To keep the bookwork running smoothly, I am requesting that you turn in all invoices and/or charge slips timely. I do match up the invoices with the statements before payment and this will help keep the recordkeeping easier for me and future bean counters.

Please (legibly) indicate your name and what the item is purchased for (i.e. concessions, zamboni, building supplies, etc). Doing this will save me loads of time trying to decipher your handwriting and determining what accounts these expenses should be credited to (not to mention lots of phone calls).

You can turn in your invoices through any of the following options:

  • Treasurer’s drawer in concession stand
  • Scrip Box upstairs (just put slips in envelope and drop in)
  • Mail to MYHA, PO Box 943, Marshfield, WI 54449
  • Board of Directors’ mailbox
  • Give directly to Cathy Marx

Any questions, give Cathy Marx a call at 387-6247. Thanks!

Pay Phone

The pay phone is now in service at the rink. Please make sure if your kids need to call for rides, etc. they should have enough money (50 cents a call) to use the pay phone. This phone will be the only phone for public use.

New Members

As registrar I have the opportunity to welcome most of the new families into our MYHA family. I am happy to report this season MYHA has the highest number of registered skaters ever.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all these new “family” members” and encourage all returning members to welcome them as well. Please get to know the families on your teams this year. Without all of us working together as a “family” our organization wouldn’t be here today. I hope all the new families will feel as welcome here as we “seasoned families” do. Have a great season! Cathy Marx

Team Photos Scheduled for November 15th

ALL Marshfield Youth and High School Hockey Teams will have their photos taken on Monday, Nov. 15th. This includes both individual and team photos! Your Team Rep. will provide the photo packet ordering form-please have these completed and photos paid for in advance, and bring on Monday, Nov. 15th.

Photos will be done at the Junior Fair building unless listed otherwise. Times for each team is listed on page 6 of this newsletter and will be posted at the rink. You may also contact your Team Rep.

The photographer has suggested wearing the red jerseys, but each team can decide.

Note that we are going with a new photo vendor on a one year trial basis. The company is VIP. They provide all the photography at WIAA State events. They will also be donating 10% of all orders back to MYHA, as well as providing digital action photography and at all our tournaments this season. If you have any questions, please contact me. I would greatly appreciate and feedback (positive or negative) regarding their service and photo quality. Please send any written commentary directly to me or give to your team rep. Please sign so I can provide follow-up.

Don’t forget to smile!

Laurel Kniech

All photos, except the Tiger Varsity and Tiger JV, will be at the Junior Fair Building (behind the rink). Come dressed and bring your skates to put on in the building. Don’t forget your stick. Helmets are not needed.

Your team photo will be taken first, so BE ON TIME and dressed in your equipment and jersey. Individual photos will be taken after your respective team photo. Bring both your red and your white jersey. Be sure your photo packet is filled out and payment is enclosed.

Photos packets will be distributed via your team rep within 3-4 weeks.

Weekend On Call Managers Needed for Concession

Volunteers are needed for the “On Call” Weekend Manager in the concession stand. You make sure everything runs smoothly during the entire weekend. Duties include opening/closing each day, managing your “staff” for the weekend, filling in for work shifts when needed.

If you are willing to work as an “On Call” Weekend Manager for two days, this will take the place of the 3 times needed to complete your concession work hours.

Please consider joining our “winning” team and volunteer. It is a great way to meet other parents and get involved with the MYHA family. An orientation will be taking place in the near future that is required before you can be an “on call” manager.

If you have any questions, please call Janet Grant (387-6219), Janelle Edwards (389-2949) or Cathy Marx (387-6247).

Copier

The copier in the conference room is here for your use in copying MYHA materials. Please use it responsibly. Each time you use the copier, we ask you turn it off when you are finished. In the past few months since obtaining this machine, it has been left on too many times. We would like it to last for a long time, so please remember to turn it off after you are through using it. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Zamboni – 3 Strikes Your Out!

As all the teams know, no one likes to come to practice to skate on used ice. Please remember our “three strikes you’re out” rule. This rule was put into place to help teams remember that they need to zamboni after their practice to insure new ice for the next team coming onto the ice. Three times of not having the ice done after your practice and your team (or the designated team for that time slot) will lose 1 practice. This rule applies for all teams, mini-mites through adults. Please remember to have a designated zamboni driver for each and every practice. In the event that the ice is not done before your team takes the ice, please contact Jim Kniech (384-6160) or Cathy Marx (387-6247).

Off-Ice Training

Off-Ice Training: MYHA will be introducing a new program this year called off-ice training. All sport teams do some type of cross training, both at the varsity levels and the youth levels. Many coaching staffs believe that off-ice training can enhance a player’s personal health, their on ice performance, build team unity and help with injury prevention.

The MYHA board approved the purchase of some off-ice training equipment. The equipment includes: slide boards, medicine balls, agility ladders, speed balls, therabands, plyometric boxes, etc….The coaches at the Squirt level and up (both boys and girls) were instructed as to proper and safe use of the equipment with their players. Coaching staff will discuss off-ice training at their team meetings. Whether or not to do off-ice training is up to the individual coach and their team.

Off-ice training will be held at the Junior Fair building. Limited time is available and MYHA is not currently being charged for use of the facility. Please have skaters wear appropriate work-out clothing (t-shirt, shorts or sweats, and tennis shoes) and encourage them to help put the equipment away. MYHA teams are responsible for making sure the building is clean after each session.

This is a great opportunity for teams to work-out together in a relaxed team environment, and also enhance skills when teams are not able to be on the ice. A member of the Sports Medicine of Marshfield staff would be happy to meet with any team and answer any player or parent question about the equipment or off-ice training, nutrition, etc…

Feedback is always encouraged, and I will give additional info, surveys to the team reps at mid-season. Any questions, or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

If you see any of the following people at the rink, please thank them for their contributions to the Off-Ice Training program:

Tom Seyfert-carpentry expertise

Tiger and MYHA Coaching staff-sharing their ideas & testing the new equipment

Jeff Graves-coordinating utilization of Junior Fair bldg

Percy Stephenson-keys, equipment storage

MYHA Board-approval of equipment purchase

Scott Meier, LAT-equipment and strength training instruction

Have fun team on and off the ice!

Cleaning Reminders

Just a reminder that if it is your team’s week for cleaning, you need to actually clean. Even though it is early in the season and the rink doesn’t necessarily look that messy, if we all pitch together and do our share of the work, the load is quite a bit less. Please remember to pitch in when it is your turn. Cleaning checklists are available on the bulletin board. Contact your team rep or Kathy Stamas if you need additional supplies. Thanks for keeping our rink looking its very best! We couldn’t do it without you!

SCRIP & My Ice

Changes: Beginning in early November, Old Navy will change their denomination from a $20 to a $25 denomination. The discount remains unchanged at 9%.

So far this fiscal year (Since July 1st), there has been $64,344.25 in Scrip sales. Our cost for this Scrip was $61,489.60 which yields a gross profit of $2,854.65. This means $1,722.81 for members (60%) and $1,131.84 for MYIce (40%).

Scrip is now sold every Thursday in the concession area from 5:45PM to 7:45PM and on Sunday evenings 5PM-8PM during Silver Laces. Make Scrip a part of your weekly shopping and save!

Save your Festival receipts for MYIce! Drop them in the collection jar in concessions or in the Scrip drop box on second floor. A $100 receipt is worth $1 to MYIce!

If you shop at Pick ‘n Save, stop at the service desk to sign up for their Advantage Club Savings Card and name MYIce as beneficiary of their charitable donation! Write down our organization’s number, which is 528225. Every time you shop (and swipe your card which logs your purchases), MYIce will get ~1% of your total purchase. Pick ‘n Save automatically will send us a check each quarter! What could be easier than that! Encourage family members and friends to help us build a second sheet for the community!
