MARSHFIELD HIGH SCHOOL LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
Generous members and organizations of the Marshfield community offer scholarships that only Marshfield High School students are eligible to receive. In an effort to make the process of applying for local scholarships easy for students, the Marshfield High School Local Scholarship Application allows students to complete 1 application that can be used to apply for 20 different scholarships. Please carefully read this scholarship information pamphlet and contact your high school counselor if you have questions or need assistance.
The Marshfield High School Local Scholarship Application is available on the school website www.Marshfieldbluejays.org. Once there, click on SCHOOLS, HIGH SCHOOL, and then COUNSELORS CORNER. The 2017 Local Scholarship Information and the 2017 Local Scholarship Application will appear under the SCHOLARSHIPS section. The Local Scholarship Information (this document) will provide you with a list of the local scholarships offered this year, as well as the requirements to apply. Be sure you meet the eligibility requirements for each scholarship! Do NOT apply for scholarships for which you are not eligible. For example, if a requirement for winning the scholarship is that you have attended MHS for at least 2 years, don’t apply if you have attended MHS for only 1 year.
The applications for the local scholarships are expected to be typed. No handwritten applications will be accepted. To assist you, the local scholarship application is a word document with text boxes for you to enter the requested information. Please be certain to you use correct capitalization, spelling, and when completing the application. Remember that the first letter of proper nouns are always supposed to be capitalized!
If there are extenuating circumstances that you believe need to be explained to the scholarship committee, find a way to include that information in your application essay. Remember, it is very likely that most scholarship committee members do not know you personally, so it is important that you present yourself to them in the best possible light, while giving them an accurate representation of yourself, your needs, and your future plans. Please make your essay as informative as possible. Tailor your essay for each scholarship. Additionally, it is VERY important that you have someone proof read your essay for clarity, flow, punctuation, grammar, etc.
If the scholarship requires you provide a reference list, please ask the individual(s) you plan to list a references if they can provide a positive reference for you BEFORE you complete and submit your application. If letters of recommendations are needed, ask the individuals who you would like to write letters of recommendation as far in advance as possible (at least 10 days). Most people are flattered to be asked for recommendations, but do not like to be asked the day before the application is due. If you do not give ample time for a letter to be written, the letter you receive may not be the best it could be. Do not select people you know who will not be enthused about you and may not be inclined to give you a positive reference. Be sure to express in writing your appreciation to those who have aided in completing your scholarship applications.
Be aware of the application deadline, no applications are accepted after the deadline. LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE DUE IN THE GUIDANCE OFFICE BY 4:00 WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 4:00. In the event that we have a snow day on Wednesday, February 22, the applications will be due by 4:00 pm the day we return.
