It is an exciting time here at UoG Su. We have a new Chief Executive and are about to start developing our new strategic plan. We are looking for a new member of our senior management team to help shape the way we communicate and market ourselves as an organisation. We provide a diverse range of services, including sports and societies, volunteering, a temp agency and a summer ball headlined by the likes of Chase and Status, and Jess Glynne. We are nimble, innovative and ambitious; but we want you to help us be better.

The new Marketing and Engagement Manager will lead on ensuring that the University of Gloucestershire Students’ Union is engaging with all our members – not just the ones already involved with us- that we are communicating with them effectively and making sure we listen to our student voice so that we can respond with the support and opportunities we offer.

We are looking for someone with experience in marketing who can innovatively approach the way we communicate as an organisation. You will be a strategic thinker who can get things done. You will lead on cross-organisational strategic planning and insight; you will have specific responsibility for our student voice team, marketing and communications.

You will also act as company secretary ensuring the effectiveness of our governance structure and ensuring that all our trustees and student officers are engaged. This will be a unique opportunity for professional development and will result in significant professional and personal development.

Marketing and Engagement Manager - Job Description

Accountability: Responsible to the Chief Executive and Board of Trustees

Key Purpose:

The purpose of the post is to ensure the effective and efficient communication and engagement with the students and staff of the University of Gloucestershire through being the strategic marketing lead for the Organisation and to act as the University of Gloucestershire Students’ Union Company Secretary.

To contribute to the operational management of the Students’ Union and to ensure the Students’ Union remains a democratic, inclusive organisation and that robust feedback mechanisms are embedded throughout all services.

All of this is subject to the policy decisions of the Trustees, Union Council and the Executive.

The post holder will work closely with all Students’ Union stakeholders; including the student members, the University, NUS and the Charity Commission in order to enhance the experiences of our students.

Pay: 29,848

This is a fixed term contract until 31st July 2017, it is hope to continue the role subject to securing funding.

Place of Work:

Your post is based on our site atPark Campus, Cheltenham. You may be based at any premises which the Students’ Union occupies and you may be required to work at any University site or any other reasonable location where the Students’ Union is undertaking its business.

Hours of Work:

The nature of your post is such that you are expected to work such hours as are reasonably necessary in order to fulfil your duties and responsibilities. Flexibility is required to attend meetings and events outside of normal office hours.

At the University of Gloucestershire Students’ Union a reasonable norm, having regard to the contractual position of other staff in organisation, is 35 hours per week for a full time post.

Holiday:

25 days p.a. increasing to 30 days after 5 years continuous service.

Duties & Responsibilities:

·  To be a member of the Senior Management Team.

·  Line Management responsibility for the Student Voice Manager and the Communications Co-ordinator, as well as student design and web staff.

Marketing and Communications

·  To develop, implement and evaluate a targeted communications strategy that supports the delivery of the SU strategy.

·  To be responsible for the Students’ Union’s marketing and communication channels.

·  To be responsible for the Students’ Union branding and corporate identity.

·  To develop and report against effective communication KPIs.

·  To lead insight work to understand our membership in order to drive engagement and involvement in our activities and opportunities.

·  To be responsible for ensuring effective communication with the student members, including monitoring social media and directing the development of the website.

·  Support all relevant departments with their marketing activities to ensure effectiveness and links to overall SU Strategy.

·  To ensure the effective delivery of annual impact report and other key printed and online information which may be required.

·  To keep up to date with trends in student online activity so as to ensure that the SU’s services are promoted effectively both internally and externally.

·  To be responsible for the accuracy of the Students’ Union membership database and website.

·  To work with all staff to support the effective communications of all services and initiatives.

Representation and Democracy

·  To work with the Education Officer and Student Voice Manager to increase participation in student democracy, promoting the benefits of membership to students.

·  To liaise with the University in the development of the student representation system.

·  To understand, support and be willing to work in a democratic organisation which exists for the benefit of its members.

Governance

·  To act as the University of Gloucestershire’s Company Secretary.

·  To ensure that the Articles, Bye-Laws and related policies of the Students’ Union are kept up to date and reviewed each year.

·  To act as Secretary to the Board of Trustees, ensuring minutes are taken and documents are distributed to Trustees, the Chair and relevant others in a timely manner.

·  To acquire a full and working knowledge of the Students’ Union governance documents and to advise and report to the Chief Executive, elected officers and Trustees as required.

·  To ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation affecting Students’ Union governance activities.

Other

·  To attend SU and University committees as required.

·  To understand, support and be willing to work in a democratic organisation which exists for the benefit of its members.

·  To ensure that where necessary student complaints and/or student disciplinary matters are conducted appropriately and in line with current policies.

·  To act as an ambassador of the organisation to the outside world, attending functions as required.

·  To be responsible for ensuring the SU considers issues of sustainability across all of its services.
