Marine Corps League, Shoreline Detachment # 1027,

State of Michigan

October 21, 2017

This meeting was held at 1000 hours at the Rendezvous Restaurant in Grand Haven.

Personal note: It was really great having 22 members at the meeting today. It promoted a lot of discussion and input on the topics on the agenda. One of our more productive meetings!

ADJUTANT: Minutes posted on the website.

ADJUTANT: No Correspondence

REPORT OF OFFICERS:

a. Commandant – Rog Klunder

Uniforms

  • Covers – If you don’t have one, think of getting one. Graphix has template to stitch both Detachment and Life member (if rated) on the piss cover.
  • Here is the URL to order covers, patches, etc.:

The Shoreline Detachment stitching on the side can be done by Graphix. Graphix is at 11223 Lakewood Blvd., Holland (112th & Lakewood)

  • Red Polo’s – We got an aggressive quote from Graphix in Holland for a knockoff of the National’s red polo. They only cost $20. The red polo is accepted informal attire. Especially when having an event with other Detachments.Phone number for Graphix is 616.396.0009
  • Interest in a more formal uniform to support more activities.

8. Unfinished business

a. Continued discussion on fund raising and recruitment.

9. New Business

  • Eagle Scout awards - We will start Eagle Scout awards as soon as we have members that have suitable uniforms. There is a lot of interest in doing an Eagle Scout program.
  • We need to re-schedule a rifle cleaning session for our 8 ceremonial M1A1’s. This is due to us not having a location to clean them at the July 15 meeting. Right now we are looking to do this after the 1st of the year.
  • Veteran Liaison Position (still open)
  • Marine Corps Birthday celebration – Bill and his comrades would like to pass this on to the League. He still will have a major involvement, but the logistics and function would become a League responsibility. We will work with Bill to see how we can help.
  • Gunny Petersen indicated that the Avenue of Flags committee would like to get out of that responsibility. Their membership is getting older and it takes a lot of work. By vote we decided to take that from the Avenue of Flags committee. Gunny Petersen will be the leader of that effort, with the detachment in support.
