MANITOBA YOUTH JOB CORPS PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
Black Youth Internship Program
In partnership with the Black Educators Association of Manitoba, an internship program is delivered that provides mentorship support and summer jobs to high-school students of African-Caribbean ancestry.
CareerFocus
Provides students with opportunities to receive career-related work experience and aid the transition from school to work. A wage incentive is provided to participating employers. This component also provides support to the High School Apprenticeship Program (HSAP), encouraging increased participation in the trades and skilled careers.
CareerOptions for Students with Disabilities
Provides students and youth with disabilities an opportunity to gain new skills through full-time summer employment and part-time employment opportunities in various provincial government departments.
Careers in the Arts Mentorship Program
Provides opportunities for youth to be mentored by representatives of arts-related careers through individual meetings, volunteer work experience and participation in career development workshops to meet the goals of increasing awareness and participation in artsrelated careers.
Conservation Green Team
Provides funding to hire youth to improve the appearance of provincial parks, wildlife management areas and campgrounds.
Manitoba Mentors (2011-12 pilot year)
Manitoba Mentors is a mentoring program that will connect high-school students (grades 9 to 12) and with mentors from businesses, labour and non-profit organizations with the aim of supporting their career development.
Manitoba Mentorships
Promotes part-time, career-related employment opportunities for post-secondary students during the school year. A wage incentive is provided to participating employers.

Manitoba Youth Job Centres
Provide summer employment opportunities to local students and youth by operating services that match youth to local jobs, develop job search skills and promote work experience.
New Directions TRY
Training Resources for Youth is a pre-employment program for disadvantaged youth who have dropped out or been expelled from school. The program assists youth to develop a productive working lifestyle, leading to steady employment or a return to school.
Northern Aboriginal Internship Program
Provides students in communities north of the 53rd parallel with career awareness information, internships and employment opportunities.
Partners for Careers
Partners for Careers is a joint initiative of Manitoba Healthy Living, Youth and Seniors, Manitoba Aboriginal and Northern Affairs and the Government of Canada. It is a program designed to provide job placement services for Aboriginal job seekers throughout the province.
Partners with Youth
Partners with non-profit, community-based organizations, institutions or training agencies in rural Manitoba to deliver projects that improve the participants’ general employability, prepare them for further training, job search or result in direct employment placement. Participants are youth 18 to 29 years of age who are receiving income assistance or who are facing multiple barriers to employment.
STEP Services
Provides referrals to students and youth seeking employment in the provincial government, related organizations and private-sector businesses participating in provincial employment programs.
Urban/Hometown Green Team
Provides grant funding to municipal governments and Winnipeg and rural non-profit organizations to enable them to hire youth to work on a variety of community-development projects that benefit the community. Scholarships are also available for youth hired through the program who can demonstrate how their participation in the project has benefited the community. A new priority has been identified for 2011 that provides an opportunity for younger youth aged 10 to 15 to volunteer in their communities and build job skills over the summer months.

Young Entrepreneurs Programming
The Young Entrepreneurs Business Grant provides a grant of up to $4,000 to encourage youth to start their own business.
Skill Development for Young Entrepreneurs provides grants of up to $1,500 to support participation in accredited business-related training courses.
Aboriginal Youth Mean Business!, a web-based directory of business support services creates awareness and directs Aboriginal youth to appropriate resources.
Youth Build
Provides youth with employment and pre-apprenticeship training under the supervision of a journeyperson. Youth are involved in high-school education and work towards meeting graduation requirements in addition to developing personal and leadership skills.
Youth Employment Program (2011-12 pilot year)
Provides high-risk youth (aged 16 to 25) facing multiple personal barriers with the opportunity to gain life skills, training and employment. Youth will be provided with pre-employment training, be connected with a job coach/mentor and receive employment support. Youth will be referred to this program from systems including Probation Services and child-welfare agencies.

Provides wage and training incentives to support opportunities in the information technology sector.
Youth NOW
Provides Winnipeg youth aged 18 to 29 receiving income assistance or facing multiple barriers to employment an opportunity to participate in project-based training and employment initiatives that will help them prepare for and secure employment.
Youth Transition: From Work to Post-secondary Education
Provides recent Grade 12 graduates with a 10- to 14-month work term and a $3,000 bursary to help them pursue their post-secondary goals. Delivered in partnership with Manitoba Student Aid.
