Board Meeting

December 10, 2014

Present: Eric Vogel, Chris Larson, Nijole Currie, Sue Hollister, Emilie Beckwith, Carolyn Emerson,

Ann Martell

Absent: Helena Deary, Carolyn Gimbrone

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Eric Vogel.

The first order of business was the treasurer’s report, presented by Carolyn Emerson. The December 2014 checking account showed a balance of $13,934.75. Income for the month included four membership dues paid ($120) and Emerson portrait workshop ($700). Expenses since November included Susan Bosworth demonstration ($150) and the association’s annual insurance premium ($446).

Carolyn gave an update on the Robert Noreika workshop. As of meeting time, five people have signed up. At least eight are needed to break even. She mentioned that there are many art clubs that are now sponsoring workshops as fundraisers. Earlier in the month, advertising was done by Ann Martell in the Hartford Courant, The Reminder and on the public access community calendar to announce the workshop. Sign up for the workshop will continue until mid-January.

Eric Vogel spoke about another possible fundraiser. He and Pat Trapp will work together to conceptualize the event. “Painting the Masters” involves painting a resemblance to a famous painting.

More information will be coming in January. Chris Larson mentioned that a “small works” show might be another idea for a fundraiser, possibly at a town wide event such as Heritage Day or other. Other places that might be considered as selling venues include LTM (Joyce Hodgeson contact person) and East Side Resource Center.

Eric has contacted Bob Eckert via email regarding the Show In The Park. Bob has not responded yet. The town of Manchester is aware that MAA will not be doing SITP this year.

The January members’ meeting will feature Jerry Madara as the guest demonstrator. He will paint with acrylics. Jerry is a member of MAA. Nijole Currie showed the board samples of artwork/ornaments that her friend makes. Nijole will see if she would be interested in doing a demonstration to the club in the future.

Nijole Currie, membership chair, gave the tally for current members. As of meeting time there are 79 paid members, five complimentary and six honorary. Eighteen people who were members last year have not rejoined this year so far. Nijole said that Doris Phillips will send a gentle reminder to those people to inquire their status.

Chris Larson, exhibits chair, said that the photography show is up. It will last through March. If artists wish to remove their paintings earlier (or if they are sold) please let Chris know. An alternate piece of art can be put in its place.

The December members meeting will take place on December 17th at The Arbors. Instead of a regular meeting, there will be a holiday party. Members may bring a piece of art that they may speak about to the group. The club will provide pizza, members can bring snacks and desserts. Bonnie Lindland is the contact person.

Sue Hollister, scholarship chair, is composing a letter that she will forward to area high schools, along with application information.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
