Assessment for Stage 5 Geography

This is an assessment of learning task for 5A3. It is the final activity in Task 4 Fieldwork and letter on land and water management. This assessment task leads into Task 5 Partnership with council regarding stormwater harvesting.

Background

You have investigated land and water management issues around your school. You have developed strategies for improvement and you are going to write a letter to the School Principal (and the Environmental Management Committee) to draw their attention to these matters. You are proposing the school develops a partnership with the local council to investigate a stormwater harvesting project for your school.

Task

Write a letter (two to three pages) to the Principal to outline your proposal for action on land and water management issues at your school.

Rubric

In your answerinclude:

  • a map and images of your school showing its main physical features
  • a description of the physical characteristics of your school
  • a summary of your research findings on land and water management
  • an outline of the issues and recommendations for action
  • inclusion of relevant primary and secondary data to support recommendations
  • geographical terminology, mapping conventions and formal letter conventions
