Background

Making The Leap is a well-established social mobility charity which aims to improve the social and economic well-being of young individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.

We run unique educational programmes for children in schools across Londonand run intensive and effective training that prepares young adults for life-changing career opportunities. All our programmes include elements of personal development, promote a can-do attitude and raise aspirations of the learner. In addition we do a number of bespoke projects with partners, which are in line with our charitable objects.To date, Making The Leap has helped around 25,000 people and has placed 5,000 individuals into employment.

Development Manager

The primary task of the Development Manager is to work closely alongside the Chief Executive, driving fundraising forward primarily through grant making trust and foundation fundraising. This includes developing fundraising strategy on a day-to-day basis and coordinating the relationships with the Director of Operations and Programme Managers.

Structure

Making The Leaphas a small team of eight full time staffwith four part time staff and a growing bank of corporate and non-corporate volunteers. The Development Manager reports directly to the Chief Executive.

Reports to:The Chief Executive

Key relationships:New prospects predominately trusts foundations and HNWI

Purpose:To work with the Chief Executive to develop and implement our fundraising and income generation strategy

To develop and manage relationships with trusts foundations and HNWI

Develop and manage a portfolio of major grant giving prospects, overseeing a process through all stages of identification, engagement, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.

Salary

C£40,000 per annum, depending on experience

Annual leave entitlement

24 days annual leave (in addition to Bank Holidays)

Pension

5% company contribution and 3% individual contribution to NEST pension scheme

Key Responsibilities

  • To lead on grant making trust foundation and HNWI fundraising
  • Provide effective management, leaderships and planning/target setting frameworks to secure income from major donors
  • To use the current structures to support existing relationships with key donors
  • Network and build relationships with new donors and prospects
  • Keep abreast of trends and developments in the UK fundraising marketplaces (and awareness of global fundraising trends)
  • To develop an excellent working relationship with the Chief Executive, Director of Operations and Programme Managers
  • To support where necessary with the organising, planning and delivery of any fundraising events/activities
  • To meet annual fundraising targets and other key objectives as set by the Chief Executive
  • To complete all administration

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience and proven success in a previous major donor fundraising role
  • Experience and proven success in sourcing and soliciting five and six figure sums
  • Experience of working with senior, highly influential and well-connected donors and canvassers
  • An understanding of the core principles of major donor fundraising, with the proven ability to think strategically and implement effectively
  • Experience of producing written reports and producing budgets
  • Experience of building long term and sustained relationships with major donors
  • Knowledge of the UK philanthropic and major donor fundraising environment
