Take A Stand Day Comments

Daniel G. O'Boyle of Glastender, Inc. writes
On August 25th, we participated in "Take A Stand Day” for Workplace Safety and Health by requesting a safety hazard survey be conducted by a MIOSHA professional. Ms. Eva Hatt was assigned to our facility and was very helpful in pointing out some issues we had not identified. The issues/concerns noted were reviewed by the management team and assigned to the appropriate departments. We are holding weekly meetings to track efforts to address these items with a tentative deadline for completion of October 31st. We also showed the "Making A Difference" CD to our Safety Committee at their regular meeting for this month. We reviewed and discussed the list of issues/concerns with Safety Committee as well in hopes it will assist them as they conduct their own audits at our facility.
After reviewing the material in the Toolbox it has become apparent staff at MIOSHA has spent a considerable amount of time and effort to put this project together. It is our intent to make use of this material as we work toward qualifying for MSHARP. I cannot think of anything you could do to improve on the effort. Good Job!!

The safety survey conducted by Ms. Eva Hatt was very thorough and some issues/concerns were identified that we had missed. She also was able to answer some questions we had regarding some issues we had identified but were unable to resolve. Hopefully this will allow us to avoid injuries in these areas.
A representative from an unknown company writes:

Lee Jay Kueppers was wonderful. There were great comments and suggestions. I think this is a wonderful program. I first want to say thanks for coming out to our site. I really feel that this is a step in a good direction for MIOSHA. I know it is probably frustrating to you folks to get called into a site after an incident. It must feel good to get a call to come in before one instead. We really appreciate the comments and suggestions, especially the one concerning the milling and material handling back in the Extrusion area. We are passing the ideas around already. I will keep you up to date as we move forward with the improvements…. Again, thanks for the time, effort and suggestions. As far as our site is concerned, Take A Stand Day was a huge success.
A representative from Arenac Casting, Inc. writes:
John Hodgson was very courteous, insightful. Remains to be determined exactly how helpful his visit was. It appears that most grinder manufacturers are not addressing ergonomics. Especially anti-vibration features in die grinders, which is what we are looking for. John has indicated that he remains available to help in any way possible.

Very helpful. Nice to talk to MIOSHA without fear of repercussions. The only suggestion I have is to provide this type of effort more often. This has definitely improved my image of MIOSHA.

I would like to compliment MIOSHA on a very positive initiative in reference to the Make A Difference and Take A Stand activities.
We participated in activities and also requested the citation free inspection, taking advantage of the opportunity to have a site inspection and review of our Occupational Health and Safety manual. Industrial Hygienist, Magnus Ndukwe, was very pleasant and patient with all our questions and offered additional assistance where needed. We also receive the MIOSHA Safety and Health Tool Box filled with useful information. Throughout this week, we have received additional message with recommended activities.
I thank everyone at MIOSHA for this opportunity.
