Maine Environmental Education Association Awards 2017

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

Please help MEEA in recognizing and celebrating the excellent environmental educators, programs, schools, students and green businesses in the state of Maine! MEEA is seeking nominations to recognize outstanding environmental achievement in 2017 in Maine in the following categories:

The Eberhard Thiele Environmental Educator Award

Excellence in Environmental Education Program Award

●School of the Year Award

●Student of the Year Award

●Business of the Year Award

Nominations may be submitted using the attached form. Nominations are due by Friday, December 15, 2017.

The Eberhard Thiele Environmental Educator Award is designed to recognize environmental education professional who works either outside the formal classroom setting or a public or private school classroom teacher that incorporates environmental education into their pedagogical philosophy and practice. This award honors Eberhard Thiele who was the first President of MEEA (1981), served many years on the board, and inspired many students as the Director of Environmental Studies at the University of Maine, Fort Kent.

The Excellence inEnvironmental Education Program Award is designed to recognize an outstanding environmental education program that is innovative and creative in its programming, has a strong evaluation component and results in changed behaviors by participants. Recipients for this award may include nonprofits, land trusts, city programs and others.

The School of the Year Awardis designed to recognize an outstanding Maine public or private school or school program that demonstrates a commitment to creating a healthy school environment through means such as reducing the school's environmental impact and improving energy efficiency, environmental and sustainability education that incorporates service learning and collaboration with other schools or programs to increase the effectiveness of their environmental education programming.

The Student of the Year Award is designed to recognize an outstanding Maine student (K-college) who has demonstrated leadership in their school and community encouraging sustainable practices and/or environmental education and or environmental justice initiatives, showed a passion for the natural world and has a strong work ethic at school and/or in their home community.

The Business of the Year Award is designed to recognize an outstanding Maine Business that is committed to serving their community through the support of green initiatives, reducing their environmental impact and improving their energy efficiency, connecting to local land and resources which highlights conscious understanding of health, conservation or environmental and economical sustainability and supporting and/or collaborating with others to promote nature education in Maine.

MEEA awards will be presented at the annual awards night,January 24, 2018 at Maine Audubon Headquarters at Gilsland Farm in Falmouth, Maine.

Nominations will be reviewed by a panel of reviewers and then approved by the MEEA Board. Awardees will be notified as quickly as possible. MEEA awards will be presented at the annual awards night,January 24, 2017 at Maine Audubon Headquarters at Gilsland Farm in Falmouth, Maine.
