MAASE Focus Areas:

We will align and organize the strategic priorities and work of MAASE to focus on the following elements: The Association Partnership group is attempting to from allies with other educational and student/child support service agencies to foster and promote the four elements defined by MAASE.

High quality student evaluations / Specially designed Instruction / Skilled Staff / Program Evaluation

Through the platforms of: Association Partnership, MAASE will seek to build relationships with other organizations, partner in advocacy, and improve the outcomes for children with disabilities

Objective of Meeting: to review our historical work, identify opportunities for additional partnerships, and plan for coordination with a potential lobbyist.

Agenda Items:

1.  Review of our historical work, (Where are we currently?)

a.  Michigan Mental Health Coalition

i.  Follow up contact with MMHC to maintain partnership, look for common goals and provide position paper or White paper.

ii.  Seek coordination with lobbyist to define legislative “champion” to lead mental health issues in the legislature.

b.  CEC

c.  Michigan Alliance for Families (?)

d.  MASA/MAISA (?)

2. Define potential partnership opportunities with other educational, professional, or service delivery agencies.

3. Define a communication protocol or feedback loop to members and the BOD to facilitate the identified partnerships, topic or agendas that assist students with disabilities.

a. all formal partnerships with other organizations to be assigned or approved by BOD

b. Work with partners within MAASE to provide input on Creating Agreement work.

c. Develop method for receiving input from other committees and COPs

4. Define or coordinate efforts with the lobbying organization.

5. Discussion/planning for an “Un-conference” where various professional organizations or agencies could get together to determine common efforts, projects or common legislative action.
