September 2017 – Newsletter

August Guest Speaker – David Mills.

Our thanks are extended to David Mills for his very informative talk on the history of his restored Humber FV1601A, 4x4, 1 ton Cargo Truck. It was used by the Australian Army between 1955 and 1965. He included the vehicles history and restoration story. He also had some workshop manuals to view. The vehicle was also on display.

The fire was going and we will once again enjoyed our pizza for supper.

Lunch at the Lancefield Hotel.

We had 20 members attend this lunch. It was lovely to catch up with Michael and Jess Street and their two little girls, Celeste and baby Harriet. Celeste was the life of the party and Harriet was the perfect baby, sleeping through all the noise.

It was also nice to see Eileen out and about again. Although, Ian should have had his ‘L’ plates displayed on the wheelchair.

We had our own room, even if it was a bit small but the Hotel was extra busy due to also having the Fairlane 500 Car Club there, as well.

The comments from everyone were very positive as it was a good lunch time venue. Good food, good service, closeby and we should try to go there again.

An Important Memo to all Car Club Members.

It has come to our attention that we do have some car club members who we do not see, or hear from, throughout the year. Your Committee try very hard to provide all members with activities to interest them and we really do appreciate your participation at these events.

Of course, we do understand everyone has very busy lives with employment, social and family activities, but our constitution does state that members should come to at least two of the club functions annually, whether they are meetings, working b’s or events. Hopefully, we will see you soon.

Sunday, 3rd December, 2017. – 1pm. Annual Christmas Lunch at the Clubrooms. More details to come.

Club Trivia Night.

The S&DCC plan to have a ‘Car Themed’ Trivia Night early in the New Year. More details to come.

Seymour Heritage Centre.

At the last meeting we discussed whether the car club could organise a day visiting this collection and maybe have a guided tour through the Heritage Carriages. We will contact the Centre to organise either a BBQ lunch or an afternoon tea. It was suggested that a Saturday may be better than a Sunday.

It was also mentioned that some Heritage Train trips are being organised in the near future.

A trip to Tocumwal is organised for Saturday 30th September, 2017 as well as a Spirit of Progress 80th Anniversary Tour in November, 2017.

RACV & Federation Golden Oldies Tour.

Judi Informed the meeting that the McGrath’s participated on this tour, in their newly permitted 1927 Chevrolet Tourer. The tour consisted of 54 cars, aged between 1919 to 1930 and travelled over 1200km, leaving the Marong Picnic on the Sunday. They travelled through St Arnaud, Horsham, Halls Gap and Ballarat, over 7 days, visiting private motoring and car collections, the now famous Silo Art displays, the Spanner Man in Boort and a guided tour of the Seppelt’s Great Western Winery. This, of course, was not a speedy tour but the older cars performed extremely well considering their age, and there were only 4 vehicles that didn’t finish the trip. Daisy performed very well -only one hiccup with a manifold gasket repair, and she even did a PB of 80kmh. (coming down hill, of course).

Next Meeting.

The next meeting will be a Committee Meeting, to be held in the clubrooms, on Wednesday 4th October, 2017, at 7.30pm. All members are welcome to attend. Tea and coffee will be available.

Mick and Paddy had promised their Uncle Seamus, who had been a seafaring gent all his life, to bury him at sea when he died.

Of course, in due time, he did pass away and the boys kept their promise.

They set off with Uncle Seamus all stitched up in a burial bag and loaded onto their row boat.

After a while Mick says, 'Do yer tink dis is fer enuff out, Paddy?'

Without a word Paddy slips over the side only to find himself standing in water up to his knees.

'Dis'll never do, Mick. Let's row some more.'

After a bit more rowing Paddy slips over the side again but the water is only up to his belly, so they row on.

Again Mick asks Paddy, 'Do yer tink dis is fer enuff out Paddy?'

Once again Paddy slips over the side and almost immediately says, 'No dis'll neva do.' The water was only up to his chest.

So, on they row and row and row and finally Paddy slips over the side and disappears.

Quite a bit of time goes by and poor Mick is really getting himself into a state when suddenly Paddy breaks the surface gasping for breath.

'Well is it deep enuff yet, Paddy?'

WAIT FOR IT

'Aye 'tis,

NOW hand me dat shovel.'
