Renewal Applications for

Malcolm Feist Cardiovascular Research Fellowships

Funding Period: The Board can renew a CCDS Fellowship twice, for a total funding period of 3 years. Continued funding by the Board in years 02 and 03 is contingent upon the fellow’s productivity and progress on the project.

Budget: The total budget for the Fellowship will not exceed $60,000 per year. The amount budgeted for the fellow’s salary cannot exceed the amount dictated by institutional policy. The remaining funds can be dedicated for research supplies, travel, etc. Technical support and equipment purchases are not allowed. Fellowship support can be secured for up to 3 years, contingent upon research progress and productivity.

Reporting: Renewal applicationswill be accepted twice a year (approximately April and October) for funding to begin on July 1st or January 1st. The renewal application should include a summary of progress towards completion of the project in the previous funding period. A final report is due to the Board no later than 1 month after the end of the project.

Submission Instructions: A completed and signed Intramural Routing Sheet (Lite Green Sheet) for Intramural Applications must be submitted with the application. The Intramural Routing Sheet form is located on Office of Sponsored Programs website:

Scan and include the completed and signed Intramural Routing Sheet (Lite Green Sheet) with the intramural application. The completed intramural application package will be emailed in PDF format to the Office for Sponsored Programs () and the CCDS () by 5 PM on March 23, 2018.

NOTE: OSPTT is no longer requiring the original signature documents (Intramural Routing Sheet and application signature page) be delivered prior to grant submission. These signed documents must be included in the scanned application package. Applications submitted without these documents and/or signatures will be rejected for submission.

Mentor/sponsor Evaluation: The mentor must submit an annual evaluation of the recipient’s progress for review by the CCDS Board of Directors. If the sponsor does not have active extramural funding, then evidence must be provided in the progress report that he/she has submitted at least one research proposal for national funding during the previous year.

Evaluation: Renewal applications will be reviewed by the CCDS Board of Directors (possibly with the assistance of relevant experts not serving on the Board). Priority for funding will be based on the progress the applicant has made in achieving the specific aims of the research plan and the mentor’s evaluation of the trainee.

FONT SIZE: Arial 11. Provide at least one-half in margins (top, bottom left and right) for all pages. No applicant-supplied information can appear in the margins.

APPENDIX: LIMIT TO THOSE ITEMS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY FOR GRANT REVIEW

Renewal Application Format

The suggested format for the Renewal Application (Arial 11 Font) is:

(A)Hypothesis. Briefly state the hypothesis from the original application.

(B)Specific Aims. List the specific aims from the original application.

(C)Progress Summary.

1. Manuscripts – Provide the citation for any manuscripts resulting from the research.

2. Abstracts- Provide the citation for any abstracts resulting from the research.

3. Results – Provide a brief summary of the experimental results to date, including future plans. Do not include figures, images, etc. in this section. Relevant figuresresulting from newly obtained data should be included in the appendix. Do not include figures from the original application.

*Sections A-C should not exceed 3 single spaced pages.

(D)Mentor’s Evaluation. Description of applicant’s research progress and overall assessment of trainee’s development.

(E)IRB Protocol Changes: If changes have been made to the IRB protocol, supply copies of the requested changes and documentation signifying their approval.

(F)APPENDIX. Include figures or images referenced in the results section. Figures and images should be from newly obtained data, not the original application. Limit to those items absolutely necessary for grant review.
