Background:The Sandra and David Simpkins Scholarship Fund was established March 26, 1997, on behalf of Arthur Simpkins and his children, Linda and Philip, in memory of his wife and their mother, Sandra Simpkins, and his son and their brother, David Simpkins. In September 2011, daughter Linda K. passed away and was added to this scholarship fund. This Scholarship Fund was also established on behalf of the many friends of the Simpkins family.
Sandra Simpkins was a very respected English teacher at Lee’s Summit
High School for 27 years. David was a Lee’s Summit High School
alumnus and graduated valedictorian of his class of 1981. This Scholarship Fund was established to help recognize their contributions to education and to celebrate their zeal for life and continual learning.
Purpose:To recognize academic achievement and to provide funds
for college-bound students.
Number of Recipients:To be determined.
Scholarship amount:To be determined.
Guidelines:a.The applicant must be a Lee's Summit High School graduating senior.
b.The recipient shall in no way be limited by gender, race, religion, or any
other designation that could exclude an individual.
c.The applicant must be or must have been involved in civic, community
and extra-curricular activities.
d.The applicant should plan to pursue an education degree or a career in
nursing/healthcare.
Process:The Selection Committee, consisting of at least three people, will
review the applications and, if necessary, interview the candidates and
obtain any additional background information.
Scholarship Payment:The Scholarship will be made by a Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation check payable jointly to the recipient and his or her choice of a higher
learning institution.To receive the scholarship check, recipient must send
proof of enrollment to Sheryl Franke, 301 NE Tudor, Lee's Summit, MO 64086.
