ESSENTIAL CRITERIA FOR THE ROLE:

  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths Grade C or above and / or NVQ or Cache Level 2 or 3 in Education or childcare.
  • Clearance you must have lived in the UK within the last 5 years for a sustained period of time.
  • You must undergo and pass a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
  • You must provide 2 professional references. (Standby requirement).

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

  • NVQ Lever 2 or 3 relating to working with children.

Brief Description of Role
To work under the instruction / guidance of teaching/senior staff, to enable access to learning for all pupils. Work may be carried out indoor and outdoor learning environments.

SUPPORT FOR PUPILS - 60%
  • Attend to pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, first aid and welfare matters.
  • Supervise and support pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning.
  • Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
  • Encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate.
SUPPORT FOR TEACHERS (20%)
  • Communicate with the class teacher to deliver effective learning opportunities for all the children in the class by preparing resources as directed by the teacher and clearing away afterwards.
  • To carry out intervention programmes where appropriate and complete feedback notes in pupil learning logs.
  • To assist with the display of pupils’ work in a variety of formats.
  • Be aware of pupil problems / progress / achievements and report to the teacher as agreed e.g. commenting on the learning taking place, completing feedback sheets for next step planning.
  • Undertake pupil record keeping as requested.
  • Support the teacher in managing pupil behaviour, reporting difficulties as appropriate.
  • Gather / report information from/to parents/carers as directed.
  • Provide clerical/administrative, support e.g. photocopying, typing, filing.
  • SUPPORT FOR THE CURRICULUM (15%)
  • Support pupils to understand instructions.
  • Support pupils in respect of local and national learning strategies/frameworks e/g/ literacy, numeracy, as directed by the teacher.
  • Support pupils using basic ICT as directed.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment / resources as directed by the teacher and support pupils in their use.
  • SUPPORT FOR THE SCHOOL (5%)
  • Be aware and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety
and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.
  • Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
  • Attend relevant meetings as required.
  • Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
  • Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including before and after school and at brunch times.
  • Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required.
  • MANDATORY DUTIES

Training/qualifications required for the post
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths & English Grade C or above and/or NVQ 2, Cache Level 2 or 3 in education / childcare / early years.
  • NVQ / Cache Level 3 in education / childcare / early years (for qualified post)
