●  Each player must have a signed player registration form on file before he or she may compete. It must be signed by player, parent/guardian, and coach.

●  Each spectator/volunteer/parent/coach must have a signed contract form on file before he or she may remain at tournament site.

●  By participating in LRSD Chess tournaments, coaches, players, parents and everyone present agree to comply with the code of conduct, procedures, and tournament rules of LRSD Chess in addition to established by LRSD. http://www.lrsd.org/sites/default/files/Student%20Handbook/2017-2018-Handbook-and-Cover-Sheet-v3.pdf

●  In order to compete in the Championship, new players must compete in at least THREE tournaments.

●  Coaches, including parent-as-coach for any independent player, must certify that players are qualified for tournament level play. That is, players must know: the rules of chess and how to set-up the board, moving the pieces, castle, check, checkmate, stalemate, promote a pawn, use a chess clock, and demonstrate appropriate sportsmanship, chess etiquette, and self-control.

●  Players may be deemed unprepared for tournament play by the Tournament Director (TD) based on performance and/or reports by proctors. These players may be removed from the tournament and forfeit their registration fee at the discretion of the TD.

●  If a registered player is unable to attend a tournament due to illness or emergency he or she MUST notify Mr. Williams by 8:00 that morning. Players who NO SHOW without notification will be banned from competition for the remainder of the season, including the Chess Championship.

●  All players are expected to play in all rounds and to remain for the awards ceremony. Any player who leaves before the awards ceremony will forfeit any medals he or she may have won and may cause his or her team to forfeit their trophy.

●  No students may be dropped off and left at the tournament site without a coach or a responsible adult. Players without on-site coach or parent/guardian will be removed from the tournament.

●  Coaches and parents are expected to monitor the behavior of their players. This includes sportsmanship, remaining in designated areas, and clean-up.

●  Players should bring: pencil, clipboard, lunch, money for snacks and something quiet to do between rounds. LRSD Chess will NOT be responsible for lost or stolen items, so choose the items you bring to the tournaments carefully.

●  Each player is encouraged to learn notation. Some issues can only be addressed if the player has recorded the moves in some way.

●  Sections for each tournament are based on ratings. Sections are determined after all of the registration forms have been received. The colors of sections have no relationship to the skill or age level of the players.

●  FOR SAFETY REASONS, EVERYONE MUST STAY IN THE BUILDING AT ALL TIMES.

●  EVERY TEAM SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST ONE VOLUNTEER ON SITE (IN ADDITION TO THE COACH). Volunteers have been designated to handle set-up, concessions, clean-up, etc. They will enlist and organize volunteers to help before, during and after each tournament. This is a strictly volunteer organization so please PITCH IN!

●  Concessions will be managed by the Jefferson PTA.

●  Each team MUST have volunteers set up the night before AND at each tournament they attend. A schedule will be posted for volunteers from each team to set up and take down. Teams that do not have volunteers will not be included in overall awards in the Chess Championship.
