Responsible to / Senior Teacher Team Leader

General Overview of the position / The focus of this position is on management and leadership. The Senior Teacher will provide leadership and advice in all aspects of professional teaching practice to ensure the provision of high quality early childhood education is meeting the learning needs of ngā tamariki.
A key function of the role will be encouraging vision and innovation and building capability of Head Teachers and teaching teams in the delivery of high quality ECE that is responsive to the aspirations each kindergarten community.
Ensure each kindergarten is functioning within the framework of relevant legislative and regulatory requirements, Hutt City Kindergartens policies and procedures.

Key Responsibility Areas / The Senior Teacherwill be expected to meet the National Professional Standards as specified in the KTCA and keep up to date with current practice and requirements as specified by the Education Council The Standards, Indicators and Expected Outcomes are available on request.
Professional Leadership
Key focus is to lead continuous improvement in the delivery of ECE within an allocated group of Kindergartens.
  • Ensuring each kindergarten is adopting and implementing current and effective approaches to teaching and learning that develops the learning needs of ngā tamariki
  • Ensuring each kindergarten is adopting and implementing current and effective leadership and management practices
  • Inspiring, motivating and supporting teachers to continually improve the quality of teaching and learning
  • Ensuring each kindergarten is developing and implementing practices that reflect and incorporate te reo Māori and tikanga Māori and the Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Establishing and leading an effective process of review that facilitates continual improvement for the organisation and the kindergartens
Strategic Leadership
Key focus is the identification, growth and development of teachers’ skills, knowledge and dispositions to contribute to the delivery of HCK overall strategic vision and goals
  • Ensuring teachers are aware of, commit to and supported in meeting the changing environment within which we are delivering our services.
  • Contributing to the identification and development of Head Teachers and teachers to provide high quality ECE that meets our strategic vision and goals.

Key focus is to establish and manage the relationships that are key to delivering high quality ECE
  • Supporting a co-operative and constructive relationships between Kindergartens and the Association
  • Building relationships which are appropriate and beneficial to HCK within our organisation and with the wider education sector and community

Operations and Management
Key focus is to manage the delivery of high quality ECE for a designated group of Kindergartens.
  • Ensuring performance management policies, procedures and practices are being effectively applied to maintain and improve teacher effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements, policy requirements, monitoring and reporting requirements are being met
  • Managing the controlling the use of available financial resources and assets to effectively and efficiently support our operations (eg PD budget, group resources etc)
  • Contributing to the appointment, management and development of high quality teaching staff to promote the deliver of high quality ECE

Experience & Qualifications / Required Experience
  • Successful leadership experience in Kindergartens and/or early childhood centres.
Other Experience and Requirements
  • Proven management and leadership experience
  • Access to a car and current driver’s licence
  • Minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership position

Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualification relevant to the role and education sector
  • Fully registered teacher with Education Council
  • Driver’s license
  • First Aid certificate
