Lorraine Elvrum Murphy Endowed International Fund – NDSU Faculty International Awards

The Lorraine Murphy Endowment supports and enhances internationalization at NDSU by providing funding in the form of scholarships for NDSU international students, and international travel and research awards for NDSU faculty. The awards are administered at the discretion of the Office of International Programs within the Division of Equity, Diversity and Global Outreach.

Lorraine Elvrum Murphy grew up in Fargo, where she attended Fargo Central High. She moved to Washington, DC and through her interactions with international students developed an abiding interest in international cultures and people. She is an ardent supporter of internationalization efforts and therefore a portion of the annual endowment monies will be used to provide funding for NDSU faculty members to engage in activities that enhance the international aspects of academic activity at NDSU.

Five separate awards of $1,000 each will be given annually to faculty who are engaged in global activities. Preference will be given to faculty members who are participating in collaborative endeavors with current or prospective NDSU international partners, developing and leading faculty-led study abroad programs, or engaging in international recruitment activities. The award can be used for any costs associated with the defined activity, including airfare, accommodation, meals, and in-country travel while abroad.

Interested faculty should submit a 1-page proposal. The proposal should include the following information:

Description: Describe the proposed international activity. How specifically will the endeavor serve to enhance NDSU’s global outreach activities?
Dates: Include specific dates of travel.

Post Activity Description: Upon return to campus, faculty members who receive the award will be required to write a 1-page description of the activity abroad, including achievements, and attach a photo taken while abroad to be shared with Lorraine E. Murphy. The document and photo will be published on the Global Outreach website and may appear in other publications that showcase NDSU Global Outreach activities.
