Principal’s Report

Academic

  • This Thursday is early progress report day. It will be learning skills. Midterm report will be issued in one month.
  • Students made course selections. They will be sitting in a course not class. Later on they will be divided into classes.
  • Grade 10 literacy test will be on April 10th.
  • April 4th is theearly release day.

Sports

  • Senior football team stays in a Windsor hotel. A 4 year old boy was very ill. They visited the boy, gave him the Jersey etc. and kept contact. Lorne Park Graduate, the author of Mississauga News, read it through tweet and wrote the news. CTV wants to do a special on this. It is great for Community building high definition footage.
  • One female student got full scholarship from USUniversity. Three boys got scholarships from Queen’s University. One boy got scholarship from University of Waterloo for football.
  • Girls’ volleyball team lost in semifinal. In Peel we got two gold medals for swimming and itbrokethe 22years record for back crawl.
  • We won two silver medals in Nordic Skiing.
  • We try to update 3-4 times every year under school matter section.

Music

  • 2 students received silver medals in instrument competition.
  • Music Night will be on April 25th. Large team of teachers are willing to help.
  • Excellent ticket sales.Special thing for students to attend. Music team is promoting it. Great social media posting.
  • The band’s trip to Nationals will take place in Toronto.

Question: Do we participate in ticket sales?

Answer: It is targeted to local businesses. Donation at bronze, silver, gold level. Car produced as prop. There are props and music etc.

Visual Arts

  • It is something for international women’s day. Sell buttons with creative work.

Event

  • The girl’s washrooms plan & update: School will build in two stages (6 existing washrooms only have cold water to washrooms, 5 new washrooms have cold and warm water and they have been activated)
  • Tennis event: Karen Ras will come. If we have a small basketball court resurfaced, that will be good for community update. Tennis coach can advocate that our school has a tennis team. It is about $200k plus maintenance. But basketball court could be used more often.

Staffing Update

  • No staff good byes last month
  • Ms.Serpeis in parental leave for 1 year
  • We have hired Ms. Pogue. She is not a Peel Region employee. It will take some time to get paper work completed.
  • Acting head of Science till June. Then post the position for permanent.

Council Report

  • Maria Mazur was unable to attend the meeting. ShabanaUllah reported on behalf of Maria that no change in Financial Surplus last month. (School Council Fund $1,530.54; Legacy Fund $418; Pro Grant $1000; PEG Fund $500)
  • When it comes to Pro Grant. We have decided on $500 that could pay for speakers. The decision is finally made to pay $1000 to Dr. Bayley’s foundation.
  • $500 in PEG can be used towards Music Night etc. $200 for microphone.
  • One Student bench ($680) is to be deducted after receiving it.
  • Teacher’s lunch cannot use Council money anymore. Cannot spend non-board fund on staff.

If something sweet (desert) from a council member it would be great

  • Fundraising committee for the rest of the year

Fundraising has to be a seamless thing. The other way is raised user fees. E.g. Activity fees (gowns etc.) There will be a letter home to communicate fees.

  • No Student Association Council fundraising will go to school council. They raised money for running special spirit for school to build leadership skills. But no covering student activity fees.
  • Guest speaker on empowering modern learners has been changed to May 1stat 7:00pm with school council meeting.
  • Legacy fundraising:
  • Loraine will draft the letter to go with mid-term report. The student’s writing is completed.
  • Project stuff very expensive. Start with screen and will take time. Promoted in Mid-term. Audio/video projectors (SAC speaker and Wireless phone) and Music band jacket two items for Legacy funds. The donator can choose towards one or the other or both causes.
  • Graduation Commencement
  • All decoration items are in basement.
  • Lakeshore convention is $8000. Or the Oasis convention center $2500. Bigger, parking is good. L shape.
  • Question: What are the restrictions on food? What will be provided – glasses and water station,Linens, cookies, cakes, drinks, etc. ? What space is for decoration? We bought napkins in the past.
  • Answer: We will find out.
