COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –Cheyenne Mountain State Park is located south of Colorado Springs at 410 JL Ranch Heights Road. Take Nevada Avenue south, which becomes Colorado State Highway 115 to JL Ranch Heights Road opposite the Main Gate One entrance to Fort Carson. Turn to the west to the park entrance. Program: Archery

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Location: Cheyenne Mountain State Park Archery Range

Details:One on one instruction will help students learn how to shoot or polish up on skills you already have. All equipment is provided. Location: Cheyenne Mountain State Park Limekiln Trailhead

Details: Discover what’s blooming around Cheyenne Mountain with the park naturalist on an easy, one mile or less trail hike. Identification books and magnifying glasses will be available for use on the hike. Recommended for ages 6 years and up.Closed-toe shoes required.Hiking shoes recommended. Reservations requested. Program: Prairie Dog Hike

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Location: Limekiln Trailhead

Details: Join the park naturalist on an easy hike to see one of the Prairie Dog towns in the park and to learn all about this vital keystone species that calls Cheyenne Mountain State Park home. Program: Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo

Details:Cheyenne Mountain State Park is proud to partner with The Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo to celebrate birds of prey. Raptors or birds of prey play an important role in the ecology of our area and Cheyenne Mountain State Park is home to many different species.

On Sunday, September 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Prairie Skipper group picnic pavilion Diana Miller, director of the Nature and Raptor Center will give a presentation featuring live birds many of which can be found at the park. To top off the presentation, a rehabilitated red tail hawk will be released back into the wild. If you want to be the lucky person to release the bird, raffle tickets will be available for $2 each or 3 for $5. The winner will be drawn during the presentation and you must be present to win. Tickets go on sale at 1:00and can be purchased up until the release. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to hold a hawk and send it on its way back to where it belongs.

The release will only take place if weather permits. Proceeds from the release raffle will go directly to the raptor center to continue their work in rehabilitating birds of prey.

Program: Full Moon Hike—Harvest Moon

Time: 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Location: Cheyenne Mountain State Park Camper Services

Details:September’s full moon is commonly known as the Harvest moon. Join the park naturalist on an easy, guided hike where we will end at the park’s amphitheater and watch the moon rise over the horizon (weather permitting). Recommended for ages 7 and up. Program: No Child Left Inside!

Details: Have you accomplished the 100 things you should do before you’re 12? Come out to the park and get that list checked off by participating in activities such as archery, fishing, and birding. We’ll also have crafts and other fun activities all of which will take place at the Limekiln Trailhead area of the park.No Child Left Inside is a national initiative to encourage children to go out into our parks and natural areas to enjoy the outdoors. Details: The park naturalistwill be at the trailhead between 10:00 a.m. and noon to help park visitors understandways in which they can help protect bears and keep them wild. There will be bear items such as skins and skulls on display to allow visitors the opportunity to touch and learn more about these amazing mammals. Details: This naturalist-led hike challenges participants to solve a puzzle, riddle or mystery as they search for hidden clues along a one-mile or less, easy trail. We have eight different mystery hikes, so come see which one needs to be solved today! Recommended for ages 6 years and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Closed-toe shoes required. Ongoing 2017 Programs

Programs: CMSP Trail Challenge and 100 Mile Trail Challenge

Time: Ongoing! Begins Jan. 1st, 2017 – Ends Dec. 31st, 2017

Location: Cheyenne Mountain State Park Trail System

Details: Join the 200+ participants who have already decided to take our challenge! The goal of the Cheyenne Mountain State Park Trail Challenge is to complete ALL 18 of the existing trails for a total of 21.87 miles. Not enough of a challenge for you? The 100 Mile Trail Challenge goal is to log 100 miles of trail within the park. This challenge is a go-at-your-own-pace kind of challenge. A quick sign up is necessary and sign-up sheets will be available at the visitor center anytime after Jan 1st. All miles must be logged and checked off by staff. Completion of the Trail Challenge will earn a special patch and the 100 Mile completers will earn a CMSP Challenge Coin.

Details: What better setting for a morning workout than Cheyenne Mountain State Park! Join certified instructor Sudhanshu Semwal for Sankalp Yoga every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday.
