President’s ReportJason Peak

Very short from me this month, I’m looking forward to the year ahead; I hope we can have as much fun as the kids will. A few notes from the GNA meeting earlier this month:

  1. There will be a an under 13b and under 13c comp next year
  2. Also it will be an under 18 comp in place of under 17 to cater for the year 12 students
  3. First game 16th March. Round 1 and 2 before school hols & Club Tournament on 24th March after round 2 (back to 2 years ago)
  4. Clean-up day on Friday before round 1, 15th
  5. We are likely to be on duty round 1 and 2

Canteen coordinator will not be available round 1, so Jason will request to swap with another club.

Other club news:

  1. New courts update:

At present the GNA has a commitment from the Council that the land between Holy Cross Primary School and Montessori is allocated to the netball courts. They cannot apply for any grants until next August and it will be November before they find out about the grant. The GNA wish to have courts ready to play on by March 2014. This may not include all playing courts and there may be a season that teams may have to play at more than one location. GNA are very proactive in getting these courts for the community.

  1. New logo completed (see header), working on completing web site.
  2. Melton Indoor:

Group of girls played in the U15 mixed competition in Melton Indoor Stadium. The aim was to provide the older girls with an opportunity to continue playing under the United banner. The girls have had a wonderful season, competed extremely well and most of all have had a lot of fun. It will be looked into next season as to whether we play all season or perhaps put a team in the second half of the year.

  1. Summer Comp:

Girls had a great time playing Summer Comp. This comp is really good for children going up to a different age group the next season or for new girls just learning how to play netball.

  1. Bendigo Community Grant:

The club obtained $1,000 grant from Bendigo Bank. This grant is to place new netball rings on the first court. These netball rings will have U9 level and full level rings and the pole will be able to be twisted around so each of the rings will be able to be used. These netball rings will be unveiled at our registration day and Jason has asked if the Bendigo bank wish to be there in attendance and they were very receptive to attending.

  1. RDFL Netball:

The RDFL(Riddell and District Football League) are in the process of implementing a junior netball competition played alongside the junior football competition. The aim is for this to start in either 2013 and if not then, then definitely start by 2014. We don’t believe it will impact significantly on our club but we do believe that there could be an impact within the GNA and we believe the GNA need to be proactive in keeping their current and future players.

Treasurer’s Report Angela Lilford / Lisa Unsworth

Attachment – 3 year profit/loss comparison.

Jason had asked for the past 3 years of operation P&L comparison. Having used Xero for the previous three years this was an easy process and it was decided to stick with Xero and continue to pay the $5 per month for this accounting package.

Any outstanding debtors/creditors?

Debtors: Foodworks – Damien to chase up

Creditors: Only small amount outstanding

Fund raising

Sponsorship:

Damien believed that we can get more out of Foodworks in 2013 and Angela having spoken to Gisborne Sport believe that we will be able to maintain our current sponsorship with them.

Powerball:

We are going to continue with this in 2013.

We have the concept to sell to smaller businesses

Members: $160

Non – members (sponsors): $250

2013 Plans

Registration Day

Rookies is 17th Feb

Suggesting 24th and then straight into training following week for older teams at least gives us 4 weeks.

We will be inviting Bendigo Bank and I would say one of the papers.

Same function as last year with Jumping Castle and BBQ?

Result was Registration Day will be on Sunday the 24th of February. We will go straight into training the following week. We will have a jumping castle and a BBQ and also a netball game on Court 1. We will invite Bendigo Bank and one of the papers to promote the netball rings. We will run an advertorial in the papers to promote the event and put the information in the school newsletter.

Cost

Last year $160 & $195

This year we propose to reduce to $140 & $180 (inc dress lease & training top). This is a removal of the fund raising levy.

Where did we get to with the family discount?

As fundraising levy has been dropped there will be no family discount.

It was discussed that due to not having the fundraising levy that we need to have one big function through the season to raise the funds that we will be missing. Jason believes that we are a big enough club now to be able to support such an event.

Nardia mentioned that she had organised an event called Bogan Bingo which was a great success and managed to raise $5,000. This is something we will definitely look further into. If anybody else has any suggestions then please forward them to Jason. We do not need to raise a figure as large as $5,000, so suggestions would be welcome.

Uniforms

Specifically the dresses; propose for under15 and under13 teams. As we are changing dresses suggest older girls get newer dresses.

Lease old/new dress and return at end of season for $25

Buy new and keep for $50 (only option for new style dresses)

Fitting Day on Monday the 17th at 3.30 pm

Boys are having a new polo top that will be used to play in U13’s

Jayne mentioned that you can get bum shorts with club name on it. Ange and Sue to look into it on a website called ‘gameclothing’.

Teams

Under15’s probably the most but my suggestion impacts lower age groups and raises the question of playing above age group.

Team numbers are still up in the air and will be decided based on registrations. Jason mentioned that there was a commitment to have an U15’s side, so that the current girls can keep playing. At present there are 3 confirmed U15’s, so we may have to bring up girls from the U13’s. This will impact on the lower age groups and as a result team numbers will be decided upon after registrations.

Coaches

Under15 – I’ve asked Karen Mather and she has accepted as long as she doesn’t have to speak at presentation event.

Under13a – Bron Slater

Under13b – Nicole Farrelly

Under13c – Julie Mackay

Under13b/c – may need a 4th coach depending on teams

Under11 –

Under11 –

Under11 –

Under9 – Joe Mason

Under9 – Bron Pemberton

First Aid

I think we have got to a point now where we need a co-ordinator that can keep track through-out the season who has and needs what.

It was decided that we need to identify somebody within each age group whom has a First Aid certificate and can be the First Aid go-to for each age group.

We need to devise a First Aid proforma so that the First Aid kits can be continually updated. This should be the role of the Team Manager.

Umpiring

Again we need someone to take a few girls under their wing and assist them through their training and games.

Any girls wishing to learn how to umpire from top age 13’s and over are more than welcome. Could anybody interested please let Jason know.

Jason spoke about having a mentor within our club and Sonya Doherty’s name was put forward. Jason would like to see Sonya be able to mentor our club’s umpires to allow a consistent approach to their development.

GNA Rep players

Should we recognise or even assist them with say the purchase of their GNA polar top?

It was agreed that we should recognise these players and that that recognition should be done in the newsletter.

2013 Dates

Vixens Clinic

First off we should look at 2 separate clinics due to numbers alone.

We need to nail down dates/times/venues.

Between the 4th and 8th of March

4pm – 5.30pm for U9 and U11

6pm – 8pm U13 and U15

This will be held at Holy Cross Primary School.

Vixens Game

Probably 2 possible options, round 7 v Pulse and round 9 v Firebirds.

It was decided to attend the Round 7 game on the 5th of May.

Jason will email Shelley with details.

Next Meeting – 30 January 2013 @ 7:30 pm, venue to be decided.

Thank you for your time and effort this evening ladies and gentleman. It is very much appreciated.
