Board Members Present: David Fox, Joe Slade Johnson, David McCurry, Jim Trott and Edwina Turner

Staff Present: Tara Askew, David Fletcher, April Hopson, Lorette Hoover, Jamie Loyd, Cheryl Myers, Virginia McKenzie, Will Burgan, and Tommy Wilson

Call to Order: Chairman Fox called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m. and stated that we will use the time to recognize Columbus Technical College (CTC) students who have earned awards from their recent 2017 Competitions at state and local level.

Welcome of Guests: Chairman Fox and Ms. Hoover welcomed the following groups of students and their advisors as listed below. Each student introduced themselves and gave a brief speech about their experience as a participant in the various competitions.

•  SkillsUSA Advisor, John Lipham

•  Gold Medalist: Angel Torres, Terry Bush, and Laura-Ann Vailonis

•  Silver Medalist: Cary Sizelove. Jr., Robert Scott, Jonas Barlow, Rishi Jain, Sklyer Oller and Tyler Voorhees

•  Bronze Medalist: Mary Jones and Marie Jackson

•  PBL Advisors, Crystal Waye and Pam Knight

•  PBL winners: ShaDarrius Jones, Shaunte Scott, Kyandra Smith, Rachetau McCoy,

Afrika Sansbury, Samuel Oliver, and Monike Titus

•  CTC 2017 EAGLE Student, Natalie Miller

•  CTC 2017 GOAL Student of the Year, Melissa Forsythe

•  Rick Perkins’ 2017 Teacher of the Year, Heather Morgan

Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting: Chairman Fox called for any corrections to the minutes as written, after hearing none, he asked for a motion to approve the Minutes of February 28, 2017 and the Minutes of March 27, 2017. Upon appropriate motion and second, the minutes were approved.

Staff Reports

Institutional Advancement

David Fletcher’s report:

•  The Foundation has identified various pockets of money that is ready to be distributed through a variety of scholarships.

•  The Mega Scholarship Awards Day is tentatively scheduled for August 31, 2017. Donors, student winners, faculty, staff, Foundation Trustees, Local Board members, and the media will be invited. Over $30,000 in scholarships is expected to be awarded to as many as 30 students.

Operations

Tommy Wilson’s report:

·  Mr. Wilson reported that the Albion Scaccia Firm was selected on April 7th to oversee the construction of the Pratt & Whitney/Quick Start Training Center project. The Kick-Off Meeting with Pratt & Whitney/Quick Start Training Center will be held tomorrow, April 26 at the Economic Development Center. Mr. Wilson stated that he is hopeful that the building will be up and running by mid-September or early October 2017.

Student Affairs

Tara Askew’s report:

•  A discussion ensued on Columbus Technical College (CTC) partnering with Columbus State University (CSU) and Muscogee County School District to offer AP clad students and the opportunity for the students to earn college credit. Meetings are on-going to support this partnership.

•  The Student Recognition program will be held this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in the McCaulley Auditorium, Room P-100 and the reception will be held in the Patrick Hall Student Center.

•  Engineering and Technology Week will be held on May 8-11, 2017.

•  CTCSpring Career Fair was held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. There were 28 hiringcompaniesin attendance.

President Hoover announced that there will be a Local Board meeting in May. The Local Board meeting in June will be held at the graduation ceremony. The June’s meeting will be Ben Richardson’s last meeting after 12 years of service to the college. Ms. Hoover stated that she would like to recognize Mr. Richardson at the June’s graduation ceremony.

Ms. Hoover also mentioned that a prospective board member name Travis Chambers’ was referred by Mr. Richardson to replace him upon retiring. She also said that if anyone has any other nominations to please email her or give her a call.

Adjourn: There being no other business for discussion, the Board adjourned at 1:35 p.m. The next scheduled board meeting will be Monday, May 22, 2017 at 12:30 p.m.
