1 Corinthians:1:1-3
1. Read 1 Corinthians 1:1-3.
2. Describe as much as you can about the city of Corinth. How does the cultural influence affect the church at Corinth in 1 Corinthians? Do you see any similarities between that church and churches today or even our church?
3. Read verse 1. What do you know about Paul's conversion experience (Acts 9:1-19a)? Do you think that his former life had any effect on his reputation with the Christians after his conversion?
4. What is significant about the title apostle? How does his words compare to the red letters in some Bibles? How authoritative are the Scriptures?
5. Read verse 2. What does the word "church" mean? How does that compare to the culture that surrounds the church? What kind of impact should a church make upon its community? Is our church doing so?
6. How are saints called? What does it mean to be sanctified? How does calling on the name of Jesus fit into the calling and the sanctification of the believer?
7. Read verse 3. What is meant by grace? Is God's grace offered just at salvation or do we experience it daily? In what ways?
8. Put into words what it means to experience peace? Who can enjoy this kind of peace? Are you experiencing peace in your life?
