Praise Ye the Lord

Call to Worship Zechariah 13:1

*Opening Hymn 11

Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

*Corporate Prayer of Confession

O Savior, forgive us. We are slow to learn, prone to forget, and weak to climb; We are in the foothills when we should be on the heights; We are pained by our graceless hearts, our prayerless days, our poverty of love, our sloth in the heavenly race, our sullied consciences, our wasted hours, our unspent opportunities. We are blind while light shines around us. Take the scales from our eyes, and grind to dust our evil hearts of unbelief. Make it our chief joy to study you; to gaze and meditate upon you; to sit like Mary at your feet; to lean like John upon your breast; to appeal like Peter to your love. Let not faith cease from seeking you until it vanishes into sight. This we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

*Silent Confession

*Assurance of Forgiveness Romans 4:25-5:1

*Blessed Assurance 572

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of his Spirit, washed in his blood. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long! This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long!

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Affirmation of Faith The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Featured Element of Worship: Communion

We need to realize that what we do in communion is more than just a symbolic act. 1 Corinthians 10:16 teaches us that when we partake of the elements, we are actually participating in the body and blood of Christ Himself. We are communing with Jesus, as he is spiritually present in a special and mysterious way for us in this sacrament. And as we are each joined to Christ, we also experience a communion with each other as we are joined together in one body—Christ’s body—of which we are various members. Let us remember this as we approach the table this morning.
