Literacy Volunteers and Clear Mountain Bank

Team Up on Financial Literacy Program

Bruceton Mills, W.Va., March 15, 2010 – Literacy Volunteers of Monongalia and PrestonCounties is partnering with Clear Mountain Bank to offer a unique financial literacy program to adult learners. The six-week course will focus on building a solid foundation for independent financial success.

Representatives from Literacy Volunteers and Clear Mountain Bank will team up to instruct students on a variety of topics, including checking account use, debit and credit cards, budgeting, loans, and overall credit health. Upon completion of the course, students will have the opportunity to open a new Clear Mountain Bank checking account. Literacy Volunteers will match up to fifty dollars of the student’s initial deposit into the account.

“Literacy Volunteers partners with over 35 organizations in both Monongalia and Preston counties to help people find and use community resources,” said Trella Greaser, assistant director of Literacy Volunteers. “We are excited to help people in our neighborhoods reach their financial independence goal through agency interactions and education.”

In addition to financial support from Clear Mountain Bank, Literacy Volunteers will also utilize money received from the Weldon grant to help fund the program.

In order to be eligible for the program, interested adult learners should not currently have an open checking account. Weekly classes will be held for students in both Monongalia and Preston counties. Class sessions will begin on April 5th. Literacy Volunteers is a non-profit organization that focuses on adult education. The organization is a United Way agency and offers free basic reading, English as a Second Language (ESL), basic computer classes, GED preparation, CDL preparation, and financial literacy classes.
