LITERACY COACH JOB DESCRIPTION

Literacy Coach (K-6)

Under the direct supervision of the site administrator, the site Literacy Coach will be responsible for providing leadership to the designated reading intervention staff. The Literacy Coach will provide assistance in the areas of effective instructional practices, fidelity of program implementation, of data-driven instructional decisions and practices, the coordination of all informal and formal literacy assessments, ongoing intervention placement issues, formal professional development opportunities, collaborative group meetings and on-going, in-class modeling and coaching (including observation and feedback). The Literacy Coach will report to and work collaboratively with the site administrator and the District Elementary Curriculum Coordinator to assure that the student/teacher needs are met and coordination and fidelity to program implementation takes place.
The Literacy Coach is accountable to the Mains Elementary School Principal for effective and timely implementation of literacy intervention program goals and procedures.
Distinguished Duties
The Literacy Coach performs a wide range of duties which include providing organizational support, training and coaching to teachers assigned to Academic Support.
Example of Duties
1. Participate in a Literacy Coach professional development plan designed to address the coaching and implementation of effective instructional strategies, program specific implementation, coaching skills and strategies, data collection, analysis and decision-making, program placement, facilitation of collaborative team time and program articulation and transition.
2. Assist in the development, implementation and coordination of the school’s literacy intervention continuum of programs and services.
3. Provide assistance and in-class coaching (demonstration, side by side coaching and observation/feedback) to intervention classes (Academic Support).
4. Facilitate ongoing opportunities for intervention teachers to meet share, reflect, train and problem solve around areas regarding intervention instruction and delivery.
5. Develop, maintain and disseminate designated documentation associated with the implementation, coordination and monitoring of the site’s intervention continuum of instruction and services.
6. Collaborate with and assist site administrators, site leadership team and district designated officials in the organization and coordination of the intervention service plan and its clear articulation into the overall site and district literacy plan. This includes but is not limited to participation in district and site designated literacy and program articulation efforts.
7. Organize and oversee the ordering, dissemination, monitoring and maintenance of instructional materials and resources associated with the implementation of the school literacy intervention continuum.
8. Oversee all informal and informal, diagnostic and progress monitoring assessment efforts including the training and support of those involved in administering assessments, the collection and posting of assessment data, the prompt desegregation and analysis of the data, and the program/instructional adjustments that occur due to such information.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Earned Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in a related field
• A minimum of five years of teaching experience at the secondary level
• Evidence of training and experience in various literacy intervention programs including High Point, REACH! and others appropriate for secondary students
• Evidence of training and experience in providing coaching to classroom teachers
• Evidence of experience in systems planning, data management and analysis, and program management
License
Possession of valid California Driver’s License
Term of Work
10 month certificated employee with an assignment of 185 working days. Salary and benefits will be based on CUSD certificated salary schedule.
