ARTISTIC Gymnastics –“ Best in the West”
During 2015 The Swindon School of Gymnastics Club who are based on the Isis Trading Estate, Stratton, sent3 teams to compete in “West Country League”
The competition was open to Clubs from Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Bath, Bristol and Wales,
All teams had a maximum of 6 gymnasts in and they all had to perform individual routines on the Vault Bars, Beam and Floor. The top 4 scores from each team counted and Clubs had to enter at least 2 of the 3 heats.
Round 1 was held back in June at the Forest of Dean Gym Club.
The seniors showed their experience in this event and managed the bronze medal position and more impressively finished 2nd overall on the beam. Lily Gatenby was the highest scorer for Swindon.
The junior A team made their debut and you could tell these youngsters (oldest 10 youngest just 8 years old ) were nervous. They did well and ended a creditable 4th place. Daniella Reynolds was the highest scorer for Swindon.
The junior B team routines weren’t quite ready so didn’t compete.
Round 2 was held in October at the Wiltshire School of Gymnastics Club, Melksham.
The Seniors used this competition to put in all of their new difficult skills. Some gymnasts went clean and coaches were delighted with their performances and progress made. The team came 4thwith Millie Swift taking prime position for the town.
The Junior A team looked more confident and performed brilliantly and were awarded 2nd place and a silver medal with Daniella being Swindon’s top scorer.
The Junior B team made their debut with them all performing a floor routine to music for the very first time. Millie Gillett was placed highest in the Swindon team.
Round 3 (the final) was held in November at the Wiltshire School of Gymnastics Club, Melksham.
The Seniors all put in another impressive performance and were rewarded with 3rd place and the bronze medals, Mille Swift finished best but more noticeably they were the 2nd best team on the Vault.
The Junior A team looked more confident and performed brilliantly and were awarded 3rdplace and a bronze medal with Daniella being Swindon’s top scorer again.
The Junior B team made lots of progress and were a lot happier to finish 5th
This lovely atmospheric league meant that all participants that had competed in all 3 events went home with a gift and a participation medal.
Swindon’s Senior girls finished 3rd in the league, as did the Junior A squad and Junior B team ended in a creditable 6th place.
Coach Teresa Foster said “These girls are a credit to the Club and Town and deserve everything they achieve. They work incredibly hard during their 3 weekly training sessions and praise must go to their dedicated parents too”
